Tropical Forecast: Tropical Storm Lorenzo is becoming disorganized in the central Atlantic. The system is a minimal tropical storm, with 40 mile per hour winds and the pressure at 1005 millibars. Lorenzo is expected to dissipate later today or tonight. The center is moving north-northeast at 14 miles per hour. Lorenzo is about 1,400 miles west-northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.
There are no other areas in the Atlantic Basin where tropical cyclone development is expected over the next seven days. We are tracking the tropics to keep you alert to the severe weather danger.
Marine Forecast: Small Craft Advisory until 5pm Friday. Seas will be 2' to 6' and water temperatures are in the low 70s at the Crystal Coast and on the Outer Banks. The Rivers and Sounds are in the mid 60s and will be choppy on Thursday. Winds will be from the north 15-20 knots, gusts to 25 knots at the Crystal Coast and on the Outer Banks. Low tide is at 10:06am and high tide is at 4:34pm.
Weather Summary:
We are tracking high pressure in the StormTrack 12 Weather Center. The high is getting set up over Great Lakes and building south into the Ozarks. A front will slip south along the coast this afternoon. The high will start to fill in through our area late. Cloudy skies should gradually clear north to south. Temperatures are cooler thank expected, because of the clouds. Highs are holding around the mid to upper 60s inland and at the beaches.
The weak front is moving well south of the area tonight. The high will bring mostly clear skies by the overnight and temperatures are cool. Lows will end up on the cool side, with low 50s inland and upper 50s at the coast.
The high will span south from southeastern Canada to the Gulf Coast on Thursday. The high is the main feature over the eastern third of the country, including the southern Appalachians. The sunshine will cover eastern Carolina, with slightly cooler temperatures. The high will help push our highs below normal. You can expect mid to upper 60s inland and at the coast.
StormTrack 12 meteorologists are tracking ahigh becoming the main feature for the eastern third of the country on Friday. We close out the work week sunny, with below normal temperatures. It will feel like football weather for the high school games on Friday night.
The weekend will start off mostly sunny and pleasant. The high will become centered over our area, allow the temperatures to warm a bit on Saturday.
A front will cross the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys on Sunday. This could send a few showers into the area later in the evening and overnight. Expect mostly sunny skies early, with increasing clouds late.
The new week will start off mostly sunny, as a front slide offshore on Monday. Showers are possibly early, then a high will build east from the lower Mississippi Valley, bring mostly sunny skies back into the region.
The high is settling into the area on Tuesday. You should see sunny skies and pleasant temperatures.
Highs will be in the low to upper 70s Saturday through Wednesday. Lows will be in the mid 40s to mid 50s Friday night through Wednesday night.
