Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors are in Los Angeles taking on Luka Dončić and the Lakers to cap the opening night of the 2025-26 NBA season.
The Lakers are without LeBron James, who is missing a season opener for the first time in his 23-year NBA career due to sciatica.
Q2 10:04 – Warriors 30, Lakers 25
Not a lot of great offense on either side so far. Jarred Vanderbilt tried to bait Draymond Green into what would have been his second technical foul, but it backfires as the Lakers forward is T’d up instead.

Free throws through one quarter in Los Angeles:
Jimmy Butler: 7-for-7
Los Angeles Lakers: 5-for-7
Lakers down 28-22 after the first quarter. Eight turnovers were killers. Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves with 16 of their points — Lakers failing to create a lot of easy offense.
Q2 12:00 – Warriors 25, Lakers 22
A nice spurt by the Lakers at the end of the corner with Austin Reaves running the offense while Luka Doncic gets a breather. But Marcus Smart fouls Jimmy Butler on a 3-point attempt to beat the buzzer… JJ Redick challenges the foul call, but it’s upheld after a review. Butler knocks down all three free throws to push the Warriors’ lead back to six. He leads all scorers with 12 points after the opening period.
Q1 1:30 – Warriors 22, Lakers 16
Really impressive early energy from this Warriors defense… the Lakers are up to eight turnovers in the first quarter already. Golden State is swarming whoever is handling the ball in purple and gold — usually Luka Doncic.
The Lakers have seven turnovers. They have six made shots. Very much looks like an offense still trying to find the right creases against a Warriors' defense that's been very high pressure.

Q1 2:42 – Warriors 22, Lakers 14
OH MY, Buddy Hield! He drops former Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart — with the help of a possible push-off — and hits the uncontested 3-pointer.
Not a great start to Smart’s Lakers career after he was brought in to help the team’s defense…
Gary Payton II already has three personal fouls off of the Golden State bench.
Q1 4:13 – Warriors 17, Lakers 12
Make that seven first-quarter turnovers form the Lakers, and counting. The latest comes as Buddy Hield swipes an inbounds pass after a Jonathan Kuminga 3-pointer for a quick 5-0 Warriors run.
Q1 5:22 – Warriors 12, Lakers 11
It takes just over six and a half minutes into his 2025-26 season for Draymond Green to get called for his first technical foul of the year after leaping off the Warriors bench to protest a no-call on what should have been offensive goaltending on DeAndre Ayton.
We have a Draymond Green technical foul from the bench after it appeared that Deandre Ayton was hanging from the rim.
Austin Reaves missed the free throw, so Ball Don't Lie applies here…

Q1 6:12 – Warriors 12, Lakers 11
GREAT transition defense from the Warriors! Draymond Green bottles Austin Reaves at the point of attack, buying time for Gary Payton II to fly in for a leaping block.
Jimmy Butler looks very active after missing the last week and a half because of an ankle sprain. He's moving well early and is making a difference on both ends.
We've seen early the way Luka Doncic-Deandre Ayton can make a pick-and-roll work. After a missed connection with Austin Reaves early, Ayton's been a part of two buckets here while drawing attention on another to create a Doncic three. Pregame, JJ Redick laid it out for what a successful Ayton season looks like.
💬: “I'd say offensively, putting pressure on the rim as a runner in early transition. Playing pick and roll with Luka, AR, being a screener and forcing overs. Punishing mismatches, getting early seals being a monster on the offensive glass. That's what we expect from him.”
Gabe Vincent may have started this game, but JJ Redick got Marcus Smart in for him within five minutes.
Q1 7:55 – Warriors 12, Lakers 11
So far, the LeBron James-less Lakers are meeting expectations — Luka Dončić has five points, but the Lakers have four turnovers… and the latest leads to a trademark Steph Curry deep 3-pointer!

Q1 10:06 – Warriors 5, Lakers 4
Jimmy Butler drains the corner 3-pointer, and the Warriors have their first lead of the night.
Q1 11:39 – Lakers 2, Warriors 0
The first basket of the 2025-26 Lakers season belongs, appropriately, to Luka Dončić on a stepback jumper.
Q1 12:00 – Warriors 0, Lakers 0
We’re finally underway from the nightcap of this NBA opening-night doubleheader! If you're looking for this game, it’s streaming on Peacock while Rockets-Thunder finishes up on NBC.
