ESCANABA — Pink was seen all over Bay College Thursday night as the Bay College volleyball team faced off against Alpena Community College. The Norse took the match in four sets (25-21, 26-28, 25-21, 25-21) in the annual pink out game.
“We haven’t played the best on pink night the past couple of years,” Norse coach Dan Porath said. “It was nice to see the girls come out with high energy and effort and get the win and now wait and see who we get in the playoffs.”
The Norse jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the first set highlighted by a pair of aces by freshman Hope Varoni. 
Alpena answered with a four-point serving run to take a 6-4 lead. Freshman Reagan Fitzpatrick had a pair of kills during the run.
The Norse scored nine of the next 11 points including a pair of kills by freshman Ava Maki to put the Norse up 13-8.
Alpena freshman Alivia Freel came through with a big kill to cut the deficit to one at 19-18.
Bay put the set away on a powerful kill by freshman Haylee Gatien winning the first set 25-21.
The Norse again jumped out to an early 4-1 lead on an ace by sophomore Jade Jasenovsky.
Alpena tied the game at six on a kill by Freel.
Sophomore Addie Morton responded with a kill to put the Norse up 7-6. After Alpena tied the game again at seven. Bay sophomore Mia Hauser came up with a big kill to put the Norse up 8-7.
The second set remained close throughout with Alpena holding the largest lead at 22-16. The Norse took the lead late at 26-25 on an ace by Jasenovsky/
Alpena answered, scoring the next three points to take the second set.
In the third set, Alpena took an early 1-0 lead. The set stayed close with Alpena extending the lead to 12-9 on a kill by Freel. 
The Norse answered with an eight-point serving run highlighted by a pair of kills by Gatien and a pair of aces by Hauser to put the Norse up 21-10.
“It was good to get this win going into the playoffs,” Hauser said. “We have a good team and everyone has put in the work to get us where we are right now.” 
Alpena responded by scoring 11 of the next 15 points but fell 25-21 in the set.
In the fourth set, Alpena jumped out to an early 6-3 lead. The Norse scored six of the next seven points to take a 9-7 lead.
Alpena went on a five-point serving run late in the set to cut the deficit to 24-21 but the Norse put the game away on a kill by Gatien.
The Norse were led by Haylee Gatien with 10 kills, Addie Morton had nine kills and one block, Ava Maki had seven kills and three aces, Mia Hauser had six kills, four aces and a block and Jade Jasenovsky had four aces.
