The rest of the scoreboard around the SEC today:
Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer was complimentary of his team for grinding out a victory against LSU. But he admitted that the Crimson Tide could be better.
💬: “It's always good to get a W. Certainly not satisfied with the way we played at times.”
Alabama remains one of two undefeated teams in SEC play, improving to 6-0. Texas A&M is also 6-0. Georgia (6-1), Ole Miss (5-1) and Texas (4-1) have one loss.
It’s a good bet that the SEC Championship Game will feature two of those teams.
Below are some reader comments following tonight’s Alabama victory over LSU:
Alabama entered tonight’s game No. 4 in the first College Football Playoff rankings. With the Crimson Tide winning over LSU tonight, they will likely be in the top four again this week when the second CFP rankings are unveiled on Tuesday.
Ohio State, Indiana and Texas A&M, which were also in the top four along with Alabama, won today. It would not be surprising if that is the same top four in next week’s CFP rankings.
LSU’s offense tonight was about what it has been all season. The Tigers couldn’t run the ball (they finished with 59 rushing yards), and they couldn’t protect the passers long enough to give them time to throw the ball down the field.
LSU finished with 173 yards passing and 232 total. That’s just not good enough, and that’s how teams lose three straight games and fire their coaches.
Germie Bernard made the right decision by coming back to Alabama for another season, and he is making himself some money for next year. His play has to elevate his NFL draft status for next year, and he had another good game tonight.
Bernard finished with three catches for 79 yards, and he and quarterback Ty Simpson have a nice connection going.
The season continues to get worse for the LSU Tigers. With tonight’s loss to Alabama, the Tigers have lost their last three games.
The post-Brian Kelly era did not get off to a fantastic start, with both quarterbacks getting in the game tonight.
LSU is 5-4 on the season and 2-4 in SEC play.
For the second straight game, Garrett Nussmeier was benched and replaced by Michael Van Buren Jr.
Nussmeier completed 18-of-21 passes for 121 yards, while Van Buren was 5-of-11 for 52 yards.
Ty Simpson is just so smooth, and that cool attitude permeates through the entire Alabama roster. The Crimson Tide QB completed 21-of-35 passes for 277 yards and one touchdown tonight. He spread the ball around too, hitting nine pass-catchers.
Alabama lost its season opener to Florida State 31-17. That game feels like a long time ago now.
With tonight’s victory over LSU, Alabama now has eight straight wins.
“Roll Tide,” indeed.
