LAWRENCE – Kansas basketball made it through its initial week of the regular season with a 1-1 record, and after that dropped from No. 19 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll to No. 24.
Although the Jayhawks won at home against Green Bay in the opener, they dropped their next matchup on the road against now-No. 20 North Carolina. KU now looks ahead to a pair of home games in the days to come, Tuesday against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Saturday against Princeton. The Jayhawks should be heavily favored in both matchups.
Kansas has been led by freshman guard Darryn Peterson and sophomore forward Flory Bidunga. Senior guard Melvin Council Jr. has played well, too, as has freshman forward Bryson Tiller at times off of the bench. But they all have room for improvement, as does a starter like freshman guard Kohl Rosario and another option off of the bench in redshirt sophomore guard Elmarko Jackson.
These two games at home against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Princeton are opportunities to bounce back this week, before the greater challenges of the non-conference slate start up again later this month. On Nov. 18, there’s a Champions Classic game in New York City against No. 4 Duke. Following that, the month rounds out with the Players Era event in Las Vegas.
