Punjab Kings came very close to winning the Indian Premier League 2025 title as they reached the final for the first time in 11 years.
Unfortunately, yet another heartbreak was waiting for the franchise as they lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six runs in the end.
It was an ideal opportunity for captain Shreyas Iyer as well, as he could have become the first captain in the history of the tournament to win back-to-back IPL titles (KKR in 2024) as skipper and two IPL titles for two different franchises as captain.

PBKSs, of course, will look to preserve their core while freeing up financial flexibility to chase high-impact players at the upcoming auction.
PBKS are expected to release certain players, who did not play much part in the title-winning campaign. The aged and out-of-form players could also be released to free up the squad as much as possible.
Fans and analysts will have to wait until November 15, when the franchise submits its official retention and release documents to the IPL governing council, after which the complete list will be publicly announced.
Players like Kylie Jamieson, who came on as an injury substitution in the squad and Azmatullah Omarzai could be released from the squad, which will boost their team budget at the mini auction.

PBKS are expected to retain a core group of players, which includes captain Shreyas Iyer, Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya, Glenn Maxwell and Josh Iglis.
Among the Indian core stars, like Nehal Wadhera, Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal are likely to be retained.
Due to an overall successful season in IPL in the last edition, not many players from PBKS have been linked with a move away from the franchise. It is one of the IPL teams, other than champions RCB, that have not made a lot of buzz in the transfer market, unlike teams like Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.
