It’s the state semifinals, and the winners of these matchups head to the state championships played at the University of Central Oklahoma next weekend.
There are five 6A’s still alive from the east side of the state: Sand Springs in 6A-II, Owasso, Jenks, Broken Arrow and Bixby in 6A-I.
On Friday, November 28th, Bixby and Broken Arrow start the day out in Catoosa at 1:00 p.m. Owasso and Jenks go head-to-head that night at 7:00 p.m. Sand Springs heads to Norman North to play Putnam City at 1:00 p.m.
How They Got Here
The Tigers are coming off a big win at home against Mustang in the quarterfinals.
Mustang had 201 yards of total offense in the first half. Broken Arrow had 182 total yards, all rushing and had a 10-point lead at the break, 17-7 Tigers.
Broken Arrow got a safety in the closing seconds to ice the win, 29-14.
For Bixby, they held a lead all game in their win over Union last week.
The Spartans had 488 yards of total offense and running back Jayson Moll had 151 of that on the ground and three touchdowns to beat the Redhawks, 51-14.
Series History
The Tigers own a 16-5 overall record in the series. They started out with a win in 1944 with a final score of 7-6 and then dominated the Spartans to four straight shutouts from 1945-48.
Bixby has taken over the series in recent years, though, winning by a combined score of 128-24 in 2022 and ’23. This is only the second time the two teams are meeting in the playoffs. The only other time was in 2011, when BA beat Bixby 58-19.
Key Players To Watch
Bixby: RB Jayson Moll, WR Braeden Presley
Broken Arrow: WR/DB Semaj Stanford, TE Titan Hicks
How They Got Here
Both teams are coming off of huge wins last week on their home turf.
Jenks beat Edmond Memorial, 60-28.
Owasso handled Yukon with a 45-7 victory.
Their offensive production has been the key to both teams’ success this season. The run game has been dominant in getting key wins and putting each program in the position they’re in now of vying for a state title appearance.
Series History
The Trojans hold a 53-18 record in the series with the Rams. Last year, in the same round, the Rams beat the Trojans in triple overtime, 30-27. This year, Jenks got revenge, winning the regular season contest, 31-21.
The series has been up and down in the last decade, as Jenks won in 2016, then Owasso took three straight before Jenks won in 2020 and 2022. With the sweep last year and one in 2023, the Rams were on a three-game win streak in the matchup before Jenks grabbed the lead back this season.
Key Players To Watch
Owasso: WR Tae Bethel, RB Jayden Hall
Jenks: RB K..D Jones, QB Landon Kizzar
How They Got Here
The Sandites beat Piedmont, 35-13, and had 317 passing yards in the game, but all five touchdowns came from the ground game.
Putnam City, on the other hand, produced a lot more in the ground game to set up a lot of scores with nearly 300 rushing yards in their 21-20 victory over Muskogee.
Series History
This is a newer series. These two teams have only met three times.
Sand Springs owns all three wins over Putnam City, with the most recent meeting being in the playoffs in 2022, where the Sandites won 31-21.
Key Players To Watch
Sand Springs: QB Easton Webb, WR Dominic Forbes
Putnam City: QB Schuylar Turnbull, WR Savion James
