VINCENT — Belpre was held to two points in overtime as the Golden Eagles dropped a 47-39 decision to Philo Saturday.
Belpre (1-2) led 26-24 going into the fourth quarter. Shy Miller and Chey Parsons buried 3-pointers in the first couple minutes of the final period to stretch the lead to six
The Electrics (1-1) answered back. Rylie Trout assisted Reagan Miller on a layup, and then Miller returned the favor by finding Trout wide open for a 3-pointer to get Philo within one. Another triple by Trout had the game knotted up at 35-all.
Gracie Bills, who led Belpre with 10 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists, turned a steal into a transition layup to break the tie with 45 seconds left, but Aubree Trout answered with a pair of free throws on the other end to force OT.
Parsons knocked down two foul shots 14 seconds into the extra session to put Belpre on top, but Philo scored the final 10 points of the game to claim the win. Spiker’s steal turned into a putback by Rylie Trout for the go-ahead basket with 2:37 remaining, and the Electrics iced the game at the foul line from there.

Elle Casto finished with a double-double of 10 points and 10 boards, while Ava Huffman also chipped in 10 points as the Cadets were 24 for 56 (42.9%) from the floor. Fort Frye doesn’t have much size this season but was still able to crush the Lancers (1-2) on the boards by a 37-12 margin.

The win was the second in as many days for the Warriors who downed Logan on Friday night.
Gates was joined in double figures by Aubrey Pepper with 12 points while Warren got eight points apiece from Jayda Murray and Danica Gates and seven from Josie Venham.

Kicking off the action Saturday were the Frontier boys in their season opener against Federal Hocking.
The Cougars trailed 38-26 midway through the third quarter but used a 12-0 run to tie it and outscored the Lancers 22-8 in the fourth to rally for a 54-46 victory.
Frontier shot just 25% (7 for 28) in the first half but only trailed 21-17 as the Cougar defense kept them in it.
Fed Hock owned a 38-32 lead to start the final stanza before Frontier took over. Brayden Powers’ layup with 6:30 left in regulation put the Cougars up 40-39, and Avery Powell followed that up with a three-point play. The lead never dipped below four points from there.
Powell led all scorers with 20 points, putting together a solid game despite a slow start that saw him go 0 for 6 from beyond the arc. He overcame the shooting woes by attacking the basket and getting to the line, knocking down 6 of 7 foul shots.
Kasen Hoff added 15 points while Jacob Bowersock chipped in 10 points and team-highs of nine rebounds and six assists. Caleb Kirkpatrick was a menace on defense, registering seven steals to go along with four dimes.
Cam Joy led FHHS with 15 points while Gabe Bray finished with 15 points and 10 boards. Mosiah Cottrill came down with a game-high 12 rebounds.
    Fort Frye 44, Morgan 39
Down by two at halftime, Fort Frye was dominant in the third quarter, outscoring Morgan 17-6 to carry a 39-30 advantage into the final period and holding on for a 44-39 season-opening victory.
Chatum Courson led all scorers with 12 points and also led the Cadets with five rebounds and three steals. Wyatt Duskey added 10 points while Grady Hesson chipped in seven.
Head coach Eric Henniger’s squad struggled to knock down shots in the fourth quarter, scoring just five points over the final eight minutes. That allowed the Raiders to claw within four in the final minute, but the Cadets held on tightly to the lead.
Gavin Shriver led Morgan with 11 points while Luke Coleman added a 10-points, 10-board double-double. Carson Huck and Layton Coleman added seven rebounds apiece as the Raiders owned a 34-27 advantage on the glass. However, Morgan also turned it over 17 times compared to just nine for the Cadets, who visit Marietta Tuesday.
    Belpre 60, Shenandoah 39
The Belpre Golden Eagles broke open a close ball game with a dominating second half as they downed the Shenandoah Zeps 60-39 Saturday at Warren High School in the Clash at The Coliseum.
Belpre led by just four points at the half before out-pointing the Zeps 33-16 in the second half to pull away to the 21-point win.
Malik Currie and A.J. Copen scored 17 points apiece for the Eagles who squared their record on the season at 1-1.
Haiden Tabler reached double figures with 11 while Malik Currie narrowly missed a double-double as he grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with his eight points.
Shenandoah got 17 points from senior Braxton Barnett including four from behind the arc.
Barnett also pulled down nine rebounds for the Zeps in their season opener.
Jace Noll reached double figures with 10 points while Korbin Varhola and Axton Miley added six apiece.
    Portsmouth West 57, Warren 37
The Warren Warriors simply did not take care of the basketball well enough to give themselves a shot at winning for the second day in a row.
Portsmouth West forced the young Warriors into 26 turnovers as they pulled away in the second half to a 57-37 win.
The Senators got a stellar performance from Will Kegley who poured in a game high 28 points while also finishing the game with seven steals and five rebounds.
Kegly had 16 points at the intermission as PW took a 27-22 lead.
Logan McIntire added 15 points including three triples for the Senators in their season opener.
Coming off of a season opening win last night over Logan, the Warriors were looking to make it two in a row but were unable to get into a rhythm offensively due to the amount of turnovers they committed.
Hudson Elzey led the Warriors with 10 points while Blake Grimes added nine.
Shawn Adams added six for Warren who will host Marietta on Friday night.
