Indian T20 superstar Abhishek Sharma smashed a 12-ball fifty on his way to an incredible century in Indian domestic cricket on Sunday.
The swashbuckling opening batter was playing for Punjab against Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy when he tore apart a bowling attack that included international fast bowlers Mohammed Shami and Akash Deep.
The 25-year-old left-hander struck five fours and five sixes, and faced only one dot ball in the dozen deliveries it took him to reach a half-century.

The onslaught slowed slightly, but keep coming until he was eventually dismissed by Deep for 148 from 52 balls.
Sharma, who opens the batting with Australia’s Travis Head in the IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad, smashed 16 sixes and eight fours in total, but fell five deliveries short of the record for the fastest men’s T20 century – reaching the milestone in 32 balls, four balls slower than his fastest ever hundred.
Punjab posted a mammoth total of 5/310 from their 20 overs – the second highest score in the history of the competition – off the back of Sharma’s ridiculous knock.
He became the fifth batter to score a 12-ball fifty in the shortest format following the likes of Yuvraj Singh at the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 – when he belted Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over – and Chris Gayle for the Melbourne Renegades against the Adelaide Strikers in 2016.
Sharma was two balls shy of the record, however, which belongs to Nepal’s Dipendra Singh Airee for a 10-ball unbeaten 52 against Mongolia in 2023.
