The pitch is hard and with overcast conditions on offer, the bowlers will get some carry. There is a strong gust of wind blowing around.
Finally, the match is on. It has been reduced to 20 overs per side. The toss will take place at 3.05 PM IST. In revised playing conditions, the powerplay 1 will till the fourth over with the overs 5 to 15 considered to be powerplay 2. Overs 16 to 20 will be powerplay 3. Meanwhile, the pitch is being prepared for the India vs Sri Lanka clash. The stumps are being put on and the roller is also in place. Hopefully we will get some news soon.
In the other semifinal, the Bangladesh vs Pakistan has been curtailed to 27-over per side. Bangladesh will bat first. Only few minutes left before a washout is announced for the India vs Sri Lanka clash.
Looks like rain is coming back again in Dubai, especially at the ICC Academy where India and Sri Lanka are slated to play, which is not at all a good sign.
India U-19 team head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar informs that the players are still at the hotel. “It’s a pity the weather has turned up and the full match won’t take place. It’s rained, the umpires need to conduct inspections, and we will leave it to them. We want the boys to have the mind on the game and not switch off,” Kanitkar says.
It must be noted that no reserve has been put in place for the semifinals of the U-19 Asia Cup. In case the India vs Sri Lanka gets washed out, India will qualify for the final. Similar is the case for the other semifinal between Bangladesh and Pakistan. Bangladesh will get through if match is washed out.
Good news from Dubai. The sun is out and the covers are being peeled off. There is a possibility of a shortened game. Hopefully, the toss happens soon.
The inspection game has started. After the first inspection at 11:30 AM IST, the next inspection is scheduled for 12:30 PM IST. There are still puddles in the field, especially at the boundary side. The sun is yet to rise in Dubai. Meanwhile, HT reported that the Indian players haven’t arrived at the ground baring some management officials. The Sri Lankan has arrived.
An inspection will be held at 11:30 AM as the rain is expected to come and go. The biggest issue is the drainage system at the ICC Academy in Dubai, with puddles of water visible across the outfield.
There is no update on when the match will start. It’s close to an hour now and there is not much information.
It’s raining once again in Dubai and the toss has been delayed. This is the second time, the toss at an Indian match has been delayed. Not just the India game, the second semfinal between Bangladesh and Pakistan has also been hit by rain.
Not just the batters, but pacer Deepesh Devendran is leading the charts with 10 wickets in three matches. In fact, it was Devendran, who broke the Pakistani backbone with the first three wickets inside the powerplay. The Indian team will once again look forward to Devendran’s heroics with the ball against Sri Lanka.
The Indian batters are on a roll in this tournament so far. Vaibhav Suryavanshi started with an 171, followed by a fifty against Malaysia. Against Pakistan, he was out on single digits. Suryavanshi’s teammate Abhigyan Kundu also etched his name into record books by becoming the first Indian to hit a double ton in the Asia Cup and in Youth ODIs. Against Pakistan, Aaron George’s 86 lifted the Indian team.
India are one of the two unbeaten sides in the tournament, having won all the three games in Group A. India won against UAE, Pakistan and Malaysia. On the other hand, Sri Lanka finished second in Group B with two wins and one loss.
