Henil Patel again, Gamage edges to deep third for a single. Slight mix-up as Dinsara sets off for a single that isn’t there. The fielder misses the stumps and he survives.
Deepesh Devendran comes into the attack, and Chamuditha tucks it off the hip for a single. Dinsara drops and runs a single into the off side. Four! Chamuditha plays the scoop, and it flies over the keeper for four again.
Falls next ball! Deepesh has his first of the day! On the hip, Chamuditha looks to swing it away, but is hurried by the pace of the ball and can only loop it to short fine.
    Viran Chamuditha c Kishan Singh b Deepesh Devendran 19 (11b 3×4 1×6)
Kavija Gamage joins his skipper at the crease. He tucks away a single to get off the mark and end the PowerPlay.
A small revision by the third umpire, the second PowerPlay will last from overs 5-16, and the third from 17-20.
Kishan Singh continues, angling it across to the right-handed Sigera who lets it go. Out! The move to promote Sigera doesn’t work. He looks to drive straight, but cloths it straight to mid-on who comes around to take the catch.
    Dulnith Sigera c Deepesh Devendran b Kishan Singh 1 (7b 0x4 0x6)
Captain Vimath Dinsara is in at three. Four! Gets off the mark with a well-timed cut shot that beats the diving deep third.
Henil Patel takes the new ball from the other end, bowling to Sigera. More confident start than his partner, defends the first two balls. Sigera looks to drive, and is beaten on the outside edge.
Sigera scores the first confident runs of the day, pushing wide of mid off for a single. Four! What a shot, Chamuditha finds his range and picks it up over the leg side for four more. Four more! Even better, punched off the back foot through covers. The ball slows down in the outfield, but just about runs away.
Peach from Kishan to Chamuditha to start! Perfect delivery just moves gently away past the outside edge, the batter does well to keep his edge out of the way. Replicates it next ball! Excellent start. Three in a row, Kishan is toying with the batter here.
Chamuditha finally lays bat on ball from the fourth delivery, defended into the off side. Beats the under edge from the fifth ball! Six! Wow, what a way to get off the mark! Chamuditha steps across his stumps and looks to pull, he gets a thick top edge that flies high into the air and over the keeper’s head for a maximum!
An early curveball from Sri Lanka, perhaps in response to the shortened match. Dulnith Sigera, primarily a middle-order batter, will be opening with Viran Chamuditha.
Kishan Singh will take the new ball for India.
Sanuja Niduwara, Viran Chamuditha, Kithma Vithanapathirana, Kavija Gamage, Vimath Dinsara (captain), Chamika Heenatigala, Dulnith Sigera, Aadham Hilmy (wk), Sethmika Seneviratne, Rasith Nimsara, Akash Vigneswaran.
Ayush Mhatre (captain), Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Aaron George, Vihaan Malhotra, Vedant Trivedi, Abhigyan Kundu (wk), Kanishk Chouhan, Khilan Patel, Henil Patel, Deepesh Devendran, Kishan Singh.
The game may have been reduced to 20 overs, but that does not mean that we have playing conditions identical to the a T20.
The first Powerplay will be just four overs in this game, with the second going from overs 5-15, and the final from 16-20.
The news from the ICC Academy Ground is that Ayush Mhatre has won the toss and India will be fielding first!
A reminder, play will be 20-overs-a-side, and will begin at 3:35PM IST.
We will have a game! The Asian Cricket Council confirms that we will have a 20-overs-a-side game from 2:02PM local time (3:32PM IST).
The toss will be at 1:35PM local time (3:05PM IST).
While we wait for an update (it’s not looking good for hopes of a match), an update from the other semifinal where both Bangladesh openers are back in the shed. Ali Reza and Mohammad Sayyam have claimed a wicket each.
Bangladesh is currently 24 for two after six overs.
There is more news from the Sevens Stadium, where the length of the semifinal has been confirmed. It will be a 27-overs-a-side game for Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Pakistan has won the toss and opted to chase.
An interesting update from the other semifinal, where the toss has taken place! Pakistan has opted to field first, we’re now waiting for confirmation on how many overs have been lost there.
As it stands though, we have a match on our hands in at least one semifinal.
Cautiously positive news, the stumps have been put into the ground and both teams are out on the ground.
Some cautiously optimistic news from Dubai, where the covers have come off! The wet patches on the outfield remain, but the Indian team has also arrived!
There remains work to be done though, and the cutoff time for a match is 2:02 PM local time (3:32 PM IST).
If you’re looking to pass the time while waiting for an update, the India men’s senior side will be looking to close out its five-match T20I series with a win against South Africa in Ahmedabad tonight.
Read Ashwin Achal’s match preview here.
The fifth and final T20I in Ahmedabad on Friday presents India with the chance to salvage a positive at the end of a testing South Africa visit to these shores.
The other semifinal between Pakistan and Bangladesh remains in the same position as this match.
It would be rather frustrating if neither semifinal were to see any action at all.
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal sat down with Sportstar after the recently-concluded IPL auction. Read that interview here:
Arun Dhumal discusses IPL auction challenges, player opportunities, and the league's growth amidst logistical hurdles and stakeholder convenience.
Unfortunately, no positive update from Dubai just yet. The rain has stopped but there are still wet patches, so felt has been placed over them. Worryingly, the clouds have returned to threaten more rain.
We’ve almost certainly started losing overs now. Indian coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar confirms that the Indian team is still in the hotel, and will come to the ground once the management gets word about a start time from the umpires.
We’re scheduled to have an update on the state of play soon, so stay with us!
While India was thrashing Malaysia on Tuesday, two of its players earned their maiden IPL deals. Kanishk Chouhan, Player of the Match against Pakistan, and vice-captain Vihaan Malhotra were both snapped up by defending champion Royal Challengers Bengaluru. If they make their debuts in the 2026 season, they will become the third and fourth players in this team to do so after Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s updated squad for IPL 2026 after the mini auction. Full list of retained players and new buys.
There isn’t much better news from The Sevens Stadium either, where there is no update on the Pakistan vs Bangladesh semifinal either.
Remember, if that match is washed out then Bangladesh goes through courtesy of a better performance in the group stage.
Hopefully it won’t come to this, but should today be washed out, India would go through to the final on Sunday by virtue of its position as table-topper of Group A. From the other semifinal (where rain has also delayed play), Bangladesh would go through as table-topper of Group B.
Here is what happens if the India vs Sri Lanka U-19 Asia Cup semifinal is washed out.
Mixed news from the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai. The good news is that the rain has stopped, and the Sri Lankan team is out on the ground kicking a football around. The bad news is that although the covers briefly came off, they’ve come gone back on now. There are a couple of problem patches around the 30-yard circle that look especially worrying.
The umpires will conduct another inspection at 11 AM local time (12:30 PM IST).
We’re ten minutes away from an inspection in Dubai. Earlier visuals from the broadcaster seemed to indicate that the rain has stopped and the outfield was being tended to, but it remains to be seen what the update from the ICC Academy Ground is.
Stay with us to find out.

Confirmation that plenty of rain overnight has led to the delay. The rain seems to have stopped for now, but conditions are soaking wet.
    We await a start time.
Some early bad news as the toss, which was slated to take place at 10:00AM, has been delayed. This is likely due to rain, although we await official confirmation on this.
Both semifinals are slated to take place in parallel today, with the winners taking their place in Sunday’s final at the ICC Academy Ground. The two semifinals today are:
