The 2025 College Football Playoff first round continues with No. 10 Miami taking on No. 7 Texas A&M. The winner will advance to face No. 2 Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
The game is scoreless in the first quarter. Follow for live play-by-play updates and analysis from The Athletic’s college football staff.
Q1 5:40 – Miami 0, Texas A&M 0
Marcel Reed finally completes a first-round pass, courtesy of a catch-and-run from running back Reuben Owens. But Reed follows that with a downfield strike to Nate Boerkircher for 19 yards to the Miami 30!
Georgia has still never played at Texas A&M as SEC members, but Carson Beck now has.
Q1 6:27 – Miami 0, Texas A&M 0
Carson Beck drops back to pass on third-and-5, and his pass is behind his receiver, falling incomplete. Miami punts, and it’s a good one, falling out of bounds at the A&M 30-yard line, far away from dangerous return man KC Concepcion.
Q1 7:39 – Miami 0, Texas A&M 0
Nice run for Mark Fletcher Jr. to get an early first down. It’s LOUD in College Station, though — let’s see how that affects Miami’s offense.
We'll have to see how the wind affects the game play today. We saw a couple of passes get away from Marcel Reed on the opening series. Was it wind related or nerves? The wind is at Miami's back here in the first quarter.
Nice open-field tackle by Miami cornerback Xavier Lucas on that drive to hold Texas A&M to a short gain. The Canes defense eventually forced a punt.
Miami will need a big game from Lucas with an already banged up secondary going against some stud wideouts for A&M. A little background on Lucas, the former Wisconsin corner, and his strange journey back home to Miami that sparked a lawsuit between the two programs.

Q1 9:17 – Miami 0, Texas A&M 0
A brutal false start on Texas A&M star left guard Trey Zuhn III backs up the Aggies from a fourth-and-6 to a fourth-and-11. Mike Elko pulls his offense off the field and punts. Big early mistake for his team, but a nice punt will pin Miami back at its 8-yard line as Carson Beck and the Canes offense take the field.
Q1 9:23 – Miami 0, Texas A&M 0
Miami finally stops Texas A&M on third down, stuffing an EJ Smith IV run. But Mike Elko, on the edge of field-goal range, keeps his offense out there on fourth-and-6, forcing an early Mario Cristobal timeout.
Marcel Reed has already scrambled for a pair of third-down conversions. I'm curious to see how Miami's defense tries to adjust and account for that after this first drive, once the Hurricanes have the chance to regroup a little.
Q1 11:40 – Miami 0, Texas A&M 0
Another third-down scramble for Marcel Reed, this one across midfield! Miami has had three chances to force a punt this drive and has failed to get off the field on all three…
Cornerback Keionte Scott — listed as probable — wasn't in the starting lineup for Miami. He suffered a turf toe injury a month ago. He was huge for Miami's defense earlier this season.
Q1 13:16 – Miami 0, Texas A&M 0
Texas A&M gets just enough to move the sticks on third down again, this time thanks to a Marcel Reed scramble on third-and-5.
Q1 14:20 – Miami 0, Texas A&M 0
Our first look at Le’Veon Moss is a short run for just enough yardage to move the chains on third-and-1. First down Aggies. Offensive coordinator Collin Klein is going up-tempo.
I’m very curious to see how A&M running back Le’Veon Moss looks and the impact he has. He hasn't played since Oct. 11, missing the last six games, but he could add another element to the Aggies offense if that ankle is truly feeling healthy.
Q1 14:36 – Miami 0, Texas A&M 0
Le'Veon Moss takes the field with the starting offense, but Texas A&M’s first play from scrimmage is a screen pass to KC Concepcion for a 9-yard gain.
Q1 15:00 – Miami 0, Texas A&M 0
Here we go! The most anticipated game of the first round of this College Football Playoff is underway!
As they do before every home game, the Aggies take the field to Kanye West’s “Power” in front of a raucous crowd of more than 100,000 fans, who then segue into singing Texas A&M’s fight song.
We are moments away from kickoff!
Texas A&M is a 3-point favorite on BetMGM. The spread was 3.5 earlier this week, but moved slightly in Miami’s direction.
In his capacity as an ACC Network analyst, former Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher has returned to Kyle Field for the first time since he was fired in 2023.
