Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Score: As Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to domestic action in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the wait extends just a little bit more: their respective teams are bowling first, with Delhi under captain Rishabh Pant opting to field first against Andhra, and Sikkim opting to bat first against Mumbai.

Retired from Test cricket and from T20I cricket almost in total lockstep, India’s two great cricket heroes of this generation will always be tied to one another. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma form the old guard, as it were, but that doesn’t mean they don’t continue to dominate the 50 over format – historically their strongest suit in international cricket.

But if they want to remain at the top of their games in ODI cricket, as they have shown in recent series against Australia and South Africa, the two stars realise they must put in the hard yards with minimal top-level cricket on the cards otherwise. What this means is that they will mark their return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India’s domestic 50-over tournament, after long spells away. Rohit Sharma last played for Mumbai in this tournament in 2018, but Kohli hasn’t donned the Delhi kit since 2010, at 22 years old and not yet a World Cup winner.

Delhi and Mumbai are two teams who will have intentions of going deep into the tournament, and their seasons will be kickstarted by these two talismanic figures at the helm, with a lot more quality surrounding them to boot. Delhi take on Andhra at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence ground in Bengaluru, relocated from the Chinnaswamy Stadium which has acted as Kohli’s second home over all these years. Mumbai face Sikkim at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Both players have shown this remains their strongest format and that they haven’t yet lost a step in the journey towards the 2027 ODI World Cup. Joining their domestic teammates this week, it becomes about getting as much cricket as they can on the way, but also about small steps as they prepare for next month’s set of ODIs against the visiting New Zealand team.

Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Score: Change of bowling works for Delhi! Pant turns to his LSG teammate Prince Yadav, who delivers the wicket of Ashwin Hebbar.
    32/1 after 9.3.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Score: Mohammed Shami over in Rajkot prises an early wicket for Bengal in a key encounter against Vidarbha. The experienced seamer gets on the board with the wicket of Yash Rathod.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Score: Clip of Mumbai’s first wicket in the innings. Rohit Sharma’s fitness continues to be his main goal between matches – all credit to him, trying to be as sharp as possible to extend his career.
Sarfaraz looking in solid shape as well – no doubt both Mumbai players have each other’s support in very similar quests to lose weight and add to their games.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Score: Keeping an eye on the other Indian stars and key performers as well. Punjab vs Maharashtra should be a really interesting game, and with Prabhsimran Singh and Abhishek Sharma sharing the crease, it’s a fast start for Punjab. Abhishek has reportedly been in the conversations for the 50-over game as well, so some strong performances this week could set him up well.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Score: Over in engaluru, Ishant Sharma has been airtight. Started off with three maidens on the trot – remarkable stuff. But the Andhra opening batters remain at the crease for the time being.
18/0 after 6 overs in that one.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Score: A clip from before the start of play has surfaced with the Mumbai players presenting Musheer Khan his debut cap – his older brother Sarfaraz with the honour, but Rohit Sharma also stepping in with a very nice gesture and an arm around the shoulder for the youngster.
SIK 19/1 after 4 in that match.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Score: Early wicket for Mumbai! Tushar Deshpande removes Sikkim opener Rajera on a duck.
Delhi keeping things quiet early on in Bengaluru.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Updates: Underway at the Sawai Mansingh as well, Shardul Thakur with the first over.
Non-zero chance of Rohit Sharma rolling his arm over a couple of times? Let’s find out – it would certainly be a useful place to get an IPL hat-trick taker to get some reps in again.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Updates: Things are getting going! Ishant Sharma and Virat Kohli’s reunion another fun little subplot. The experienced seamer takes the first over against the Andhra openers, including KS Bharat and Ashwin Hebbar.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Updates: So both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be chasing in their respective matches, as Rishabh Pant wins the toss against Nitish Reddy and puts Andhra in to bat first.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Updates: We have news from Jaipur! Sikkim have won the toss and opted to bat first. Rohit Sharma is indeed in the playing XI – full team sheet soon.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Updates: Slowly receiving word of the toss and the playing XIs from other matches across the country (it’s a full slate today). From Jaipur and Bengaluru, though, having to exercise some patience.
Mohammed Shami in action for Bengal, Sai Sudharsan for Tamil Nadu. Will keep an eye on them and others as well.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Updates: Toss should have taken place in the two matches by now with start of play 30 mins away. We will update as soon as possible as the information filters in.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Updates: More Indian international players to focus on during this particular match will be Harshit Rana, playing for Delhi, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who has earned captaincy rights for Andhra and is looking to hone his game in an attempt to become an all-format regular.
Elsewhere on the day, Abhishek Sharma is part of Punjab’s team to face Maharashtra, but having recently competed in the T20Is vs South Africa, his participation isn’t certain.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Updates: The match will begin early in the winter morning, with the cool air meaning there will be plenty on offer for seamers across the country early on in the first innings with two new balls. It won’t make for easy batting conditions in the first hour or so of play, which means opening batters like Rohit Sharma will have their job cut out early on if they bat first.
35 mins from the toss now, which might prove to be crucial across the country.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Updates: The Delhi vs Andhra match was originally set to take place at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, a place Kohli has made his second home. However, fears from the stampede following last year’s IPL has meant that for safety and precautionary purposes, the match has been moved to the outskirts of the city, where the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence will host this contest instead.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Updates: Alongside Kohli will be another star teammate, as Rishabh Pant tries to make his claim for more regular Indian action with participation in domestic white ball games. With no Test matches until August, Pant has time to spare to commit himself to the VHT for its entirety – a key moment at this stage of his career, as he tries to regain favour in the white ball formats for India. He will lead Delhi’s team, and have intentions of recreating what Ishan Kishan did as skipper Jharkhand in the SMAT to earn his spot at the T20 World Cup.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Updates: Rohit has suited up for the Mumbai team more recently, last in 2018, and will be back again. However, there are some players that Mumbai won’t have just yet under the captaincy of Shardul Thakur. Shreyas Iyer remains injured, Yashasvi Jaiswal is not available, Ajinkya Rahane isn’t in the squad, and Ayush Mhatre only recently finished the U-19 Asia Cup. There is naturally plenty of talent in this unit, but it isn’t Mumbai at their strongest – Rohit Sharma will have a lot of responsibility on his shoulders, as has always been the case.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Updates: Kohli has been such a cornerstone of India’s efforts in the 50-over format over the course of his career that he hasn’t had regular need to suit up for Delhi in this particular tournament. The weight of his runs and records in the format speak for themselves – but the VHT has plenty of talented and hungry players who would love to say they had the better of the great Kohli. It won’t be easy sailing by any means.
Vijay Hazare Trophy LIVE Updates: It’s a double feature presentation day for us, as eyes turn towards domestic 50-over competition. The reason is simple: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are back. The focus will be on what this pair of Indian superstars can do at the domestic level, having had quiet outings in the Ranji Trophy earlier this year.
Makes for an interesting week as we close out 2025 – stay tuned!
