HOUGHTON — Five area athletes registered first-place finishes last Saturday at Section VI indoor track & field meets at Houghton University.
In the A/C Inter-Divisional competition, Nathan Mays of Dunkirk/Forestville/Silver Creek led the way in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet.
Meanwhile, in the B/D Inter-Divisional competition, Ethan Verbosky of Falconer/Maple Grove/Cassadaga Valley/Frewsburg/Randolph claimed first in the boys 1,000 meters (2:35.55); and the Golden Falcons were first in the boys 4×400-meter relay (3:37.47).
Among the area girls, Sydney Simmons of Falconer/Maple Grove/Cassadaga Valley/Frewsburg/Randolph captured first in the 55-meter hurdles (9.26) and teammate Mary Lundmark cleared 9 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault for another first.
