The Pakistan vs South Africa, 3rd ODI will be live streamed on the Jio Cinema app and website in India. It will be telecast on the Sports 18 TV channels in India.
The toss has been delayed, but there’s good news from the Wanderers. Conditions are looking much more promising, with players warming up and the main pitch now uncovered. The toss is confirmed for 2 PM, with play starting at 2:15 PM local time.
South Africa won the toss and opt to bowl against Pakistan in Johannesburg.
South Africa: Tony de Zorzi, Temba Bavuma(c), Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen(w), David Miller, Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, Bjorn Fortuin, Kagiso Rabada, Kwena Maphaka
Pakistan: Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan(w/c), Kamran Ghulam, Salman Agha, Tayyab Tahir, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Sufiyan Muqeem
Early breakthrough for South Africa. Rabada strikes as Shafique falls for a duck, caught by Markram. A tentative prod with no foot movement results in a simple edge. That’s three ducks in three games for the opener, a tough patch, to say the least.
The delivery, on a good length, nipped in slightly, and Shafique’s lack of confidence showed. Markram did well to take the catch to his left. A forgettable outing ends for Shafique.
Babar Azam comes to the crease
    PAK 10/1 (3.1)
And the rain returns. It’s shaping up to be a recurring theme for the day. The full covers are back on, and the conditions look bleak. Expect a delay before play resumes.
Still waiting as the rain lingers on. The delay continues.
Finally, a positive update. The covers are coming off, and after a 15-minute delay at the start and a further 50 minutes lost, we’re set for a restart.
Play will begin again at 15:45 local time, though a few overs will be reduced.
The game has been reduced to 47 overs per side, which feels quite long given the rain delays.
The players are back on the field with Jansen bowling and two slips in place. With the game reduced to 47 overs per side, the weather continues to threaten, with more rain forecast later in the evening.
The match has already seen overs cut due to delays, with one over being lost for every four minutes of halted play. Let’s hope the weather holds off for the rest of the game.
    PAK 12/1 (3.3)
Rabada bowls at 140kph to Saim Ayub, a full delivery on leg, clipped towards midwicket. The batters charge for a quick single, but a direct hit at the bowler’s end sees Ayub safely in.
    PAK 20/1 (6)
Marco Jansen bowls to Saim Ayub, four. Maphaka fumbles badly. Jansen delivers a bouncer, and Ayub pulls it powerfully, lifting one leg off the ground. Maphaka charges from deep backward square leg but fails to stop the ball, allowing it to race to the boundary.
    PAK 48/1 (11)
Pakistan’s batting lineup has the Proteas bowlers working hard. Kwena Maphaka bowls a fuller length delivery to Saim Ayub, who drives it beautifully, sending the ball wide of mid-on for a four. Ayub nailed the shot, striking it with power.
Babar Azam is in full flow, and he makes it count with a brilliant FOUR. A short, wide delivery that turns away, but Babar keeps his hands low, plays it late, and expertly cuts the ball between point and short third man for a four.
Next ball from Fortuin to Babar Azam, and he calmly gets behind the line, defending it solidly into the off-side.
    PAK 91/1 (17.5)
Both Saim Ayub and Babar Azam have reached 50, showcasing that Pakistan’s batting lineup is proving too strong for the Proteas’ bowling attack.
However, the Proteas finally got the breakthrough they were searching for. Kwena Maphaka bowled to Babar Azam, who was caught by Miller at mid-off. Babar Azam departs for 52 off 71 balls, including 7 fours.
Mohammad Rizwan comes to the crease.
    PAK 115/2 (22.3)
The flow has changed as South African players keep the Pakistani batters tied down with singles and no runs. Meanwhile, on the other courts, 15th seed Shreya Lele continued her impressive run, coming from a game down to defeat former champion and second seed Anupama Upadhyaya 13-21, 21-18, 21-14 in a thrilling match.
Kwena Maphaka bowls to Rizwan, delivering a half-volley which Rizwan punches straight of mid-off. With mid-off and mid-on inside the circle, the ball dribbles away to the fence for a FOUR, bringing 18 runs off the over.
Saim Ayub, eyeing a century and closing in on it, could achieve back-to-back centuries if he gets there. We’re all eagerly waiting for it. He takes a run off a back-of-a-length, leg-lined delivery from Corbin Bosch.
Saim Ayub brought up his century with a celebratory raise of the bat, but quickly got back to business. Right after the celebration, Mohammad Rizwan followed suit with a series of boundaries, as both players looked to strengthen Pakistan’s total, piling on the runs with impressive intent.
    PAK 206/2 (34.2)
Corbin Bosch claimed his maiden international wicket as he dismissed Saim Ayub. Bosch delivered a short-of-length, leg-lined ball, which Ayub tried to pull, but ended up getting a top edge. The ball went straight to Klaasen, who made no mistake in the field.
Ayub departed for 101 off 94 balls, having struck 13 fours and 2 sixes.
Kamran Ghulam comes to the crease and departs on first ball.
Salman Agha comes to the crease.
    PAK 231/5 (39.5)
Agha slams it for FOUR! Shuffling across, he waits for the slower, short, and wide delivery outside off and times it perfectly to find the boundary.
Pakistani batters are falling like leaves in spring, one after another, as South Africa’s bowling attack intensifies in the final overs.
Pakistan post 308 on the board. Inserted to bat, Abdullah Shafique bagged his third duck of the series in as many outings.
“It’s always special when you score big but it’ll be more special if we win the game. Ultimate goal is winning. Due to all the batsmen’s efforts, we scored 308. Enough is not the right word, but it’s challenging because we’ll not make it easy for them. I hope we will win. The surface is not that usual what the stats tell us about this ground because of the rainy weather. Let’s see what happens. (How proud are you of your batting efforts in this tour?) I am just proud of my team.”
De Zorzi and Bavuma step onto the field, ready to kick off the chase. De Zorzi takes strike as Shaheen Afridi prepares to open the bowling attack.
Shaheen Afridi hands Bavuma a fiery start with a blazing FOUR! A fuller length delivery that angles in on the pads, and Bavuma times it to perfection, clipping the ball elegantly between mid-wicket and mid-on for a well-executed boundary.
And then, Naseem Shah gets his revenge! He dismisses Bavuma for 8 (6), with a sharp delivery that results in a catch at mid-off. Saim Ayub takes a safe catch to send Bavuma back to the pavilion.
Rassie van der Dussen comes to the crease.
    RSA 25/1 (3.2)
Shaheen Afridi is keeping the Proteas batters tied to singles and no runs with some disciplined bowling. He first slammed a fuller length delivery into van der Dussen’s pads, though the ball was going over.
Aiden Markram responds with a brilliant boundary! Mohammad Hasnain delivers a fuller ball, and the width gives Markram the space to free his arms. He drives the ball expertly, lifting it over extra cover for a powerful four.
Hasnain delivers a fast yorker at 142 kph, and van der Dussen, trying to clip it, walks across but is struck on the pads. The batter opts for a review, but the umpire’s decision stands. A brilliant piece of bowling from Mohammad Hasnain.
Saim Ayub bowls a tossed-up delivery to Marco Jansen, and Jansen goes down on one knee, smashing a powerful slog sweep. The ball races past the deep mid fielder for a stunning boundary. A well-executed shot.
Sufiyan Muqeem delivers a fuller length ball to Klaasen, who responds with a powerful drive, slapping the ball straight down the ground for a boundary. Pitched up, Klaasen gets the bat down with force and smashes it hard past the bowler.
Salman Agha, coming in as the right-arm off break bowler, started with a series of tight deliveries. He first bowled to Corbin Bosch, who could only punch a slightly overpitched ball to extra cover for no run. Agha then bowled an offbreak to Bosch, who defended it back to the bowler.
The next ball, Bosch swiped to deep backward square leg for a single. Agha then bowled to Fortuin, who clipped the ball to short midwicket, also for no run.
Mohammad Hasnain bowled to Corbin Bosch, hitting him on the pads. There was a big appeal from the fielding side, but the ball had angled in and appeared to be going too high.
Hasnain signaled to his captain, suggesting that the ball would likely miss the stumps, making a review unnecessary.
A historic moment for the visitors as they pull off the unimaginable –whitewashing South Africa on their own turf. Pakistan, who have previously claimed ODI series victories here twice, have now raised the bar.
Mohammad Rizwan takes center stage in the celebrations, with the Pakistan support staff rushing onto the field to join in the festivities, congratulating the team on their remarkable achievement.
“Very special because we won. This award is for the team. The entire team chipped in. As a young player I look to learn from every game. I look to learn from every mistake. The seniors help me learn.”
That’s all from this match. We’ll see you again with another live blog. Until then, good night and take care.
