COLUMBIANA — Hunter Davanzo got the Columbiana Clippers going and everyone else joined in the ride Tuesday.
Davanzo scored the Clippers’ first nine points in a 60-36 win over Wellsville to set the stage for an Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference showdown.
The Clippers are 16-2 overall and 11-1 in the EOAC, one game behind Valley Christian. Valley will host Columbiana on Friday with the league title on the line. Valley won 56-37 at Columbiana on Jan. 11.
Davanzo finished with 13 points, three off his career high, and five rebounds.
Seth Struharik collected 20 points and three assists and Cooper Brown had 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three big blocks in the first half. Brayden Clancy grabbed eight rebounds and Avery Young added six points.
Wellsville drops to 7-11 and 5-7 in league play heading into Friday’s game at United.
Tyrell Watkins led Wellsville with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Andrew Mackey grabbed 10 rebounds. Watkins was the only Tiger to score more than four points as Wellsville shot 6-of-20 from the foul line.
Davanzo scored the game’s first six points in the opening two minutes. He added a three-pointer to put the Clippers ahead 9-5 with 4:12 to play in the first quarter.
The closest Wellsville got after that was 13-11 in the final minute of the first quarter. Struharik’s three-pointer beat the buzzer as the Clippers led 16-11.
Columbiana outscored Wellsville 20-4 in the second quarter on 8-of-13 shooting to pull away.
Struharik had consecutive baskets and Avery Young made a three-pointer to make it 23-13 with 6:28 remaining in the second quarter. Wellsville had only one basket the rest of the half.
Brown hit a three-pointer for his first basket at the 4:56 mark of the second quarter to put the Clippers ahead 26-13. Davanzo had a layup, Brown and Carter Johnson had consecutive three-pointers and Clancy scored off an offensive rebounds to give the Clippers a commanding 36-15 halftime lead.
Wellsville won the junior varsity game, 50-38. Cooper Frank scored 17 points and Eric Dowling 15 for the Tigers. Liam McElwain had 15 points for the Clippers.

Valley 58, Lisbon 54
YOUNGSTOWN — Valley Christian had five players score in double figures during a 58-54 win over Lisbon in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play Tuesday.
Jordan Tutwiler and Patrick T. Riley topped the Eagles with 13 points apiece. Jaylen Robinson and Jerrell Miles each scored 11 points and Deion Miller 10.
The Eagles improve to 15-2 overall and 12-0 in the EOAC, one game ahead of Columbiana. Valley will host Columbiana on Friday and can clinch a share of the league title with a victory.
Valley trailed 27-22 at halftime and scored 25 points in the third quarter to rally for a 47-39 lead.
Lisbon moves to 9-8 and 6-5 in league play.
AJ Ramgeet led the Blue Devils with a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Aidan Ramgeet added 14 points and Luke Kraft totaled 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Valley also won the junior varsity game, 39-28. Dennis Reed scored 12 points for the Eagles. Logan Sturgeon had 11 points for the Blue Devils.
Lisbon will play at United today.

SALINEVILLE — Southern’s Braxton Sloan is really starting to make a name for himself in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.
The freshman hit a game-winning three at the buzzer to help the Indians beat United 41-39 on Tuesday.
Southern improved to 8-10 and 6-6 in the EOAC.
Sloan led the Indians with 27 points, five rebounds, four steals and two blocks.
Jacob McCurdy added eight rebounds. Aaron Keoppel had seven rebounds.
Trent Ellyson and Luke Mercer had 10 points each for the Eagles, 4-13 and 2-8 in the league.
United hosts Lisbon today.
Southern will play an OVAC consolation game on Tuesday.
United won the jayvee game 44-11. Aiden Davis had six points for Southern.

East Palestine 83, Leetonia 52
LEETONIA — Kyler Bourne had 25 points, 13 rebounds and three steals as East Palestine stormed past Leetonia 83-52 on Tuesday.
Owen Jurjavcic added 16 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Will Dixon haad 13 points, six steals and five rebounds. Landyn Cope had nine points and five rebounds. Clark Rutledge had eight points and four assists.
Dylan Johns and Dylan Brown had 11 points each for Leetonia, 4-13 and 0-11 in the EOAC.
East Palestine (8-9, 4-8 in the EOAC) hosts Urban Scholars on Thursday.
East Palestine won the jayvee game, 25-21. Clark Rutledge had seven points for the Bulldogs, while Brad Bartels added six points.
Leetonia is at Lisbon on Friday.
