The Jimmies men’s volleyball team could not complete the comeback in the fourth set and that cost them in a four-set loss to Benedictine University-Mesa (Arizona) (25-20, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21).
The Jimmies finished the three-day UJ Invitational with a 2-3 record.
“Anytime you can play a team like Benedictine or Missouri Valley or Viterbo or Simpson it gives us a chance to grow and really push ourselves,” Jimmies head coach Downey Huynh said. “Each team really challenged us and really pushed and really exposed any weaknesses in our game that we have to directly look at.”
The match served as the return of Tysen Myers who missed the last three matches with an ankle injury.
The first set was incredibly tight with the teams trading the lead back and forth. After the teams were tied at 10, the Redhawks went on a run to take a 14-11 lead. The Jimmies responded to bring it to within one at 19-18 but the Redhawks finished the set on a big run getting a 25-20 first set win.
In the opening set, there were 11 ties and four lead changes.
The Redhawks opened the second set on fire by taking an 8-2 lead. The Redhawks continued the run from there taking a 17-8 lead and finished the set with a Jimmies service error giving them a 25-16 second set win.

The Jimmies kept fighting in the fourth set and turned what once was a 12-7 lead into a 12-10 lead but a kill from the Redhawks (4-1) made it 13-10 and started a run that saw them take a 17-13 lead.
