MARIETTA, Ohio — Several area athletes traveled to Marietta College this past Sunday to compete in the Pioneer Elite Invitational on a six-lane indoor track.
Athletes from Lewis County and Buckhannon-Upshur teamed up to represent the Impact Running Club, while athletes from Elkins High School competed as “Forest Hills Distance Project.”
The 1,600-meter run field was particularly stacked with area athletes, with B-U’s Jack Waggy placing third in a time of 4:36. Hot on Waggy’s heels were Elkins High School’s Trevor George (4th, 4:39.0), Gavin Brown (7th, 4:44) and Josh Bodkins (8th, 4:46).
B-U’s Joey Nolte (10th, 4:55) and Lewis County’s Brody Skinner (17th, 5:03) and Owen Debar (25th, 5:20) also competed in the 1,600.
Elkins’ George (2:09), Bodkins (2:10) and Brown (2:11) doubled back to take second, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 800-meter run to outpace B-U’s Nolte (7th, 2:13) and Lewis County’s Debar (18th, 2:27).
Skinner came back later in the day to take second in the 3200-meter in a time of 10:52.88 to narrowly beat B-U’s Alex Sappey (3rd, 10:52.88).
Skinner and Sappey teamed up with Waggy and Nolte to represent the Impact Running Club’s winning 4×800-meter relay in a time of 9:05.
In the sprints, Lewis County’s Carder Holden took fifth in the 55-meter (6.84), sixth in the 200 (24.63) and third in the 400 (53.21).
Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School’s Ella Whitehair took 20th in the girls 1,600 in a time of 6:25 and took seventh in the high jump (4-0).
