WHEELING – From the northern lower peninsula of Michigan to the northern panhandle of West Virginia to the southern suburbs of Philadelphia, that’s the path that Hunter Rainier’s hockey career has and will continue to take him.
The Linsly senior and Lake City, Mich. native, announced his college plans Friday morning when he signed his NCAA Letter of Intent to further his academic and athletic careers at Division III Neumann University.
The Knights were the 2009 national champions and have had a successful run.
“The campus feel and how everyone was so supportive of each other,” the 6-1, 200-pounder said of his choice. “The hockey program is well established and it has a great athletic training program which I plan to major in.”
Rainier credited social media for his ending up in Wheeling.
“I saw on Facebook where Linsly really needed a hockey goalie, so I decided to step in and help them out,” he said. “I started midway through the school year.”
Neumann University is a member of the Atlantic East and ECAC. The school was founded in 1998.
“I think it is a very good fit for Hunter,” Linsly assistant hockey coach Luke Miller said. “He is a very hard worker and made numerous big saves for us this season.
Hunter is the son of Dale and Melissa of Lake City.
