Justin Langer was slammed and ridiculed by fans for calling Virat Kohli the best batter he has seen in international cricket. He lauded the Indian batter for his performances over the years, but his statement didn’t get a positive response considering the batter’s failures in Test cricket for a long time. The right-handed batter has been struggling outside the off stumps with Australian pacers bowling him the line of the fourth and fifth stumps.
He scored a hundred in Perth, but the remaining outings have been ordinary. Langer justified his statement on Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
“My statement on Virat Kohli was not taken lightly by a few. I will tell you why I said that Virat is the best batter I have ever seen. If I had a last dollar in my pocket, I would spend it on watching Brian Lara bat. When If I had to choose a batter to bat for my life and the last dollar together, he would be Virat Kohli,” he said.
“I like his intensity and passion for the game. The way he bats and fields and also his gladiator-type leadership style were impressive. He is a complete package, and I haven’t seen a player like him who gives everything whenever he steps on the field,” he added.
Kohli has scored across formats worldwide, and his record in Australia is phenomenal, making him one of the favourite visiting batters down under.
