Here we go! Smriti Mandhana and S Meghana in the middle. Shabnim Ismail with her pace to begin proceedings for MI.
A good start for RCB. Their batting has not quite fired as well as they would have liked this season. They would like to finish things off on a high though. S Meghana and Smriti Mandhana are looking in good touch so far. Mandhana has also hit a six and this seems like the day she gets a big one.
A calm end to a powerplay that started with a bang. S Meghana departed in the fourth over but not before she had slammed 26 off 13 to take RCB to a flying start. Smriti Mandhana and Ellyse Perry are currently in the middle. Just 12 runs have come in 14 balls since Meghana’s dismissal. MI slowing RCB down here.
Mandhana and Perry have added 40 for the second wicket in 32 balls. Not the fastest of partnerships but the duo has now set up a really strong platform for the likes of Richa Ghosh to launch the finishing assault. RCB should eye 180 at the least from here. Perry is not at his fluent best tonight batting on 13 off 15 while Mandhana is at 40 off 26.
Smriti Mandhana has gone right after she raised her half-century. She goes back for 53 off 37 dismissed by Amelia Kerr. But the platform is ready for RCB to launch. Richa Ghosh has joined Ellyse Perry in the middle and it might be the time for some fireworks now.
RCB have not quite taken off the way they would have wanted. Last 5 overs, just 37 runs have come despite Richa Ghosh and Ellyse Perry in the middle. MI will now think they have pushed 200 out of equation. MI would not mind anything below 180. This is a good pitch to bat and RCB really need to get going now.
Georgia Wareham finishes off in style for RCB. What a powerful cameo from Wareham and RCB have a huge total on the board. 10-ball 31 not out from Wareham. Perry did not have the best of days but she still finished with 49 off 38. Mandhana had earlier got a half-century and Richa Ghosh too scored a crucial 36. Opening the innings S Meghana too smashed 26 off 13 balls. Two wickets for Hayley Matthews but it was Amanjot Kaur whose spell really helped limit the scoring. Kaur did not pick a wicket but gave only 27 runs in her four overs.
MI need 200 runs to win!
Hayley Matthews and Amelia Kerr are out in the middle to open the innings in this big chase. Kim Garth takes the new ball for RCB.
A good start for MI. Hayley Matthews has already hit four boundaries already and has flown to 19 off 14. Amelia Kerr too has hit a four.
Sneh Rana comes up with a double blow and RCB are right ahead in the game. Rana has dismissed both the openers and MI’s powrplay has been derailed after a decent start. Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat-Sciver Brunt in the middle now
The required run rate has climbed past 11 but MI would think they are going well. This partnership between Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt is now worth 37 off just 23 balls. RCB need a wicket or else things would turn really quickly here.
MI have crossed 100 but they have also lost their skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. The required run rate is inching towards 14 now and things are looking increasingly difficult for the hosts. Nat Sciver-Brunt is batting really well but she would need some help from the other end as well.
Nat Sciver-Brunt has gone and perhaps the game has gone with her as well. RCB in a totally commanding position right now. Amanjot Kaur is still in the middle but she will have to pull off a real heist here if MI have to have any chance. Sciver-Brunt though gave her best with a brilliant 69 before Ellyse Perry got her wicket with a caught and bowled.
RCB beat MI by 11 runs!
A win to end the competition for RCB and MI fail to finish on top of the standings. DC get the top spot and a direct spot in the final. A good late fightback from MI but the score was just out of their reach.
RCB win by 11 runs and this is the performance they would have liked a little bit earlier in the tournament. The entire batting unit clicked. Smriti Mandhana got a half-century, Ellyse Perry got 49*, S Meghana and Richa Ghosh played good cameos but the innings of most consequence came from Georgia Wareham whose 10-ball 31* pushed RCB to 199. The target of 200 was above par and MI crumbled under pressure. Nat Sciver-Brunt scored another half-ton but her team fell short despite a decent effort. Sneh Rana was the star with the ball with three wickets. Ellyse Perry and Kim Garth picked up a couple of wickets each.
With the loss, MI finish the league stage with 10 points. This is the same as Delhi Capitals but DC’s net run rate is better and that is why they take the top spot. MI will now face Gujarat Giants with the winner qualifying for the final against DC.
For RCB, it was a poor season. They started with two wins and then lost five on the trot which crushed their hopes of defending the title. A win to finish the campaign but RCB would have hoped for a far better tournament.
Sneh Rana is the Player of the Match for her triple-wicket blow that she inflicted on MI.
League stage is done and the WPL now returns on Thursday. Thank you for following. See you!
