Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi officially assumed the role of President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) late on Thursday, succeeding Shammi Silva, the President of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the regional cricket body announced in a statement.
In his remarks, Naqvi said it is an honour to be appointed at the prestigious position. "I am deeply honoured to assume the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council," he said. "Asia remains the heartbeat of world cricket, and I am committed to working with all member boards to accelerate the game's growth and global influence.
"Together, we will unlock new opportunities, foster greater collaboration, and take Asian cricket to unprecedented heights," he added.
Naqvi also took the opportunity to thank the outgoing ACC president for his leadership during his tenure.
Silva, reflecting on his time as president, acknowledged the significant achievements under the ACC's guidance. "It has been a privilege to serve as President of the Asian Cricket Council. The steadfast commitment of our member boards has been pivotal in elevating the ACC's stature across the region," Silva said.
Naqvi, who is also currently serving as Pakistan's Interior Minister, has been leading the PCB since February, 2024.
The ACC's officials press release welcomed Naqvi's appointment.
"Naqvi brings a visionary approach focused on unity, innovation, and strategic growth, reinforcing Asia's position as the epicentre of world cricket. Under his leadership, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) looks forward to a dynamic and collaborative future, with an enhanced commitment to development programs, youth engagement, and elevating the global prominence of Asian cricket," it said.
