It was an impressive week of high school sports in the Greater Savannah area as golfers, track and field athletes and baseball players were among the athletes turning in top notch performances.
Braden Schnaible of The Habersham School defended his title to win the Savannah City High School Golf Championship at Bacon Park, while freshman Maya Lilja-Vazquez of Savannah Arts won the girls championship.
The Effingham County baseball team continued on with its winning ways as junior Kaleb Pendley continued to swing a hot bat for the Rebels.
The South Effingham track and field team had an impressive showing at the 22nd annual Derrick Plankenhorn Meet with Syraiah Wilkins, Justine Nevels and Harrison Crofts taking home gold medals.

The junior went 4 for 4 with a double, a run and four RBIs in a 10-0 win over Statesboro and then went 2 for 3 with four runs, two triples, with two RBIs in a 10-2 win over Statesboro. Pendley is hitting .446 with 10 doubles, 25 runs and 21 RBIs for the Rebels, who are 23-3 on the season.
The senior shot 69 at Bacon Park Golf Course to win the Savannah City High School Golf Championship for the second year in a row.
The freshman shot a 36 on the front nine of Bacon Park Golf Course to win the Savannah City High School Golf Championship.
The sophomore won the high jump competition at the 22nd annual Derrick Plankenhorn Meet with a season best leap of 5-feet, 4 inches, a mark which is tied for 11th in the state, across all classifications, this season.
The sophomore, also a standout running back who recently received a football offer from Georgia Tech, won the 100 meters at the Plankenhorn Meet with a time of 10.95 and was second in the 200 meters (22.59).
The senior won the high jump at the Plankenhorn Meet — tying his personal best leap of 6-8, which is tied of sixth in the state, across all classifications this year. He was also fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 42-3, another personal record.
The sophomore won the 100 meter hurdles (15.35) and the 300 hurldles (45.84) at the Plankenhorn Meet.
The junior left hander earned the win in a 10-1 victory over Long County as he fanned 12 batters, allowing just one hit in six innings of work. He waled three and didn’t allow an earned run, while helping his own cause by going 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI at the plate. He’s hitting .370 with 16 RBIs and is 3-1 on the mound with a 1.72 ERA on the season for the Cavs (16-7).
The senior, who is headed to Bucknell as an offensive lineman on a football scholarship, won the shot put at the Plankenhorn Meet with a throw of 47-8.5.
The senior, who has signed to play at Georgia College & State, went 2 for 2 with three RBIs and earned the pitching victory in a 6-5 win over Toombs County. He is hitting .522 on the season with 26 RBIs and a 1.412 OPS, with a 5-1 pitching record on the season.
The sophomore had a pair of goals and five steals in a 3-2 win over Pierce County for the Panthers, who improved to 12-1 and 6-0 in Region 3-2A play with the victory. She has 31 goals and 17 assists on the season.
The junior scored a pair of goals in a 5-0 win over Valdosta as the Wildcats clinched the Region 1-6A title. He has 19 goals and three assists on the season for Richmond Hill, which has an overall record of 13-2 and a 10-0 mark in region play.
The sophomore won the 100 meters at the Plankenhorn Meet with a time of 12.65, and was third in the 300 meter hurdles (50.09).
The freshman won the 3200 meters at the Plankenhorn Meet with a time of 12:40.00, and was sixth in the 1600 meters (5:54.40).
The junior had five goals in a win over Islands and a goal and an assist in a win over Savannah Christian last week. She has 12 goals and three assists on the year for the Hornets (12-2).
