MOLINE, Ill. — WQAD’s sports team is going “Beyond The Score” in a brand-new way, launching a new podcast with a strong focus on Quad Cities sports and the stories behind them.
In the premiere episode, the team introduces themselves to viewers and shares what brought them to the Quad Cities — from hometown roots to cross-country moves.
“I just wanted to start somewhere and get my feet under me,” said Jonah Krell, who moved from Arizona after working in sports radio.
Jenna Minor, who’s from Indiana, said the decision to join WQAD “just felt right.”
Kory Kuffler, a Moline native with nearly three decades in local broadcasting, said he was excited to bring the team together for this new project.
The group shared personal stories, favorite spots to eat in the Quad Cities, and the most memorable games they’ve covered — including high school playoff thrillers, Caitlin Clark’s jersey retirement at Iowa and standout performances from local athletes like Lauren Walker and Ryland Carton.
They also opened up about why they got into sports journalism in the first place.
“You get to see moments most people don’t, and you get to tell those stories,” Minor said.
“Sports are meant to bring people together,” Krell added. “That’s what makes this fun.”
The podcast is available now on the WQAD News 8+ streaming app and will feature regular episodes diving deeper into local sports stories, personalities and standout moments.
