New Delhi
Captain Sanju Samson praised his 13-year-old Rajasthan Royals teammate, who became the youngest player ever in the first class Indian cricket as he was bought for a whopping Rs. 1.1 crore by Rajasthan Royals at the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction.
Samson predicted Vaibhav would surely break Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing record. Master Blaster Tendulkar was included in the Indian team at 16.
Vaibhav has already played for the Indian U-19 and is the youngest player in history to play for the national team in the Youth Test and the Youth ODIs.
The opening batter will celebrate his 14th birthday on 27th March. The youngster was born just a week before India won the 2011 World Cup under MS Dhoni's captaincy. Interestingly this relation between Vaibhav’s age and India winning the World Cup is the subject of an advertisement on television to promote IPL.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Vaibhav could play against Dhoni in the 2025 IPL campaign when RR faces Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Dhoni, 43, is the oldest player in the 2025 IPL. Samson also put massive faith in the youngster's ability and backed him to play for India in a couple of years.
Samson said about Vaibhav to JioHotstar in an interaction, "He looks ready. I think it's all about keeping him in the best shape and in a relaxed environment, which RR is known for, and then back him. You never know, in a couple of years he might end up playing for India as well. I feel that he is ready."
If Samson's prediction comes true and the Bihar cricketer dons the Indian jersey in the next couple of years, he will make his debut for the country at the age of either 15 or 16. Suryanashi could become the youngest cricketer to play for India in history. The record currently belongs to Sachin Tendulkar, who made his Test debut in 1989 against Pakistan, aged 16 years and 205 days.
A few days later, he made his ODI debut for India against the same opposition at the age of 16 years, 328 days. Washington Sundar (18 years, 80 days) holds the record for being the youngest Indian to play a T20I match.
Vaibhav has already played for the Indian U-19 and is the youngest player in history to play for the national team in Youth Test as well as Youth ODIs.
The 2025 IPL will mark RR's first season after Rahul Dravid took charge of the team. The Indian cricket legend previously played for them for three years between 2011 and 2013. He also captained them for his last two seasons as an IPL player. Dravid was the franchise's mentor in 2014 and 2015.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi hails from Tajpur village of ditrcit Samastiput in Bihar. His father Sanjeev Suryavanshi, a farmer, realized his interest in cricket at the age of four. He built a small ground in the backyard of his house for Vaibhav to practice. He soon enrolled him in a cricket coaching academy.
At 12, Vaibhav participated in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy for Bihar, in which he scored nearly 400 runs in five matches.
In November 2023, Vaibhav was selected for the India B Under-19 team for the Under-19 Quadrangular Series, which is played by India A, Bangladesh, and England Under-19 teams. Although he did not score as many runs against England and Bangladesh, his performance gave his career a push.
In January 2024, Vaibhav made his Ranji Trophy debut and became India's youngest first-class player at 12 years and 284 days. This gave him huge recognition in the world of cricket.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi created a stir in the mega auction of IPL 2025. Rajasthan Royals bought this young player for Rs 1.1 crore.
He played a trial match in Nagpur, in which he performed brilliantly. Seeing Vaibhav's brilliance, there was a bidding competition between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals.
Vaibhav's batting style and technique are excellent. Once during a trial match, Vaibhav had to score 17 runs in an over and he hit three sixes to the amazement of selectors.
Vaibhav's hard work and commitment to the game have made him one of the most promising cricketers in India. His father Sanjeev Suryavanshi says about him, "Vikram Sir (coach Vikram Rathore) shaped Vaibhav's game in such a way that he could prove himself in every situation."

Vaibhav also broke many records. At 13, he made his mark in cricket history by scoring the fastest century in a youth test match. His century in 58 balls earned him a place in the record books as the fastest centurion in Indian cricket.
He also showed his prowess in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and became the youngest Indian player to score a half-century in List-A cricket. He achieved this feat at 13 years and 269 days, and this was yet another record.
