Former England pacer James Anderson has said that he feels out of place when he sees himself beside batting legend Sachin Tendulkar in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, adding that he holds the latter in very high regard, and he has always been awkward about listening to his achievements.
Anderson, the first half of the trophy, voiced how he feels honoured to be on the trophy besides Tendulkar.
The renaming of what was the Pataudi Trophy earlier involved a lot of debate but it was ultimately renamed after two modern-day legends.
“I feel completely out of place when I see myself alongside him with the trophy. As I said, I hold him in such high regard,” Anderson said while speaking to Sky Sports.
The former England pacer said that he often feels strange hearing about his career now that he has retired from international cricket.
“It is strange that when people talk about what I have achieved in cricket, like when I hear about it, as if someone’s talking about someone else, if that makes sense. Like I don’t feel it is me who has achieved all this,” Anderson said.
“It sounds strange, but that is how my head works. I just can’t quite believe the things that come with playing for such a long time,” Anderson added.
The star England pacer’s career came to an end last year, when he stepped back to permit England’s next generation of pacers to take over and gain experience ahead of the ongoing India series and the upcoming Ashes.
Meanwhile, injured Indian left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, who is yet to play in the ongoing Test series against England, might not be available for selection for the fourth Test starting in Manchester from July 23.
Arshdeep, who is yet to play Tests, injured his left hand while trying to stop a shot from Sai Sudharsan’s on his follow-through during the net session in Beckenham on Thursday.
The Indian team on Saturday, July 19, arrived in Manchester in their bid to level the five-match series after the heartbreak of Lord’s.
