All four of Nordlock-sponsored Andover Cricket Club’s teams won on Saturday with some brilliant individual performances resulting in a great weekend for the town club.
Andover first XI recorded their fourth win in a row thanks to a brilliant 93 not out by George Reynolds against Fawley.
After a rapid half-century the week before, Reynolds continued his good form and showed his versatility, this time with a patient match-winning 93 not out, carrying his bat, and the Andover side to victory.
No other Andover player passed 20 as Reynolds was seemingly batting on a different wicket in pursuit of Fawley’s 179.
Earlier in the day, the Andover bowlers stuck gamely to their task as Fawley set a decent 179-6 from their 50 overs.
Michael Adams (25-2) was the pick of the bowlers, picking up his 350th first XI wicket, while Callum Bird (21-1) picked up his first wicket on his first-team debut.
There was also one wicket each for James Knight (7-1), Matt Hooper (20-1), and Babu Veettil (30-1).
Andover went past the Fawley total in the 40th over for the loss of seven wickets and brought home with them 20 points.
That sees Andover stay in fourth place and they welcome second-place Portsmouth & Southsea to London Road this Saturday (12:30 start, free entry and visitors welcome).
Andover will be looking to leapfrog Saturday’s opponents, a side they beat comfortably in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.
Andover second XI chased down Overton first XI’s total in just 30 overs largely down to a brilliant hundred from Kelum Watta (109).
Andover bowled with great accuracy and patience in restricting Overton to a below-par 206-9 from their allotted 45 overs.
Martin Roberts (51-3) was the main wicket-taker but he was ably supported by the economical Ashwin Vasudevan (21-2), Callum Eke (34-2), and John Wilkinson who went for just 25 runs in his nine overs without getting a wicket.
Andover knew they stood a good chance of chasing this total and Watta wasted no time in chasing it down.
Watta smashed his 109 from just 83 balls with 21 boundaries that peppered the scorched London Road outfield.
Roberts followed up his earlier wickets with 29 with the bat and 15-year-old James Bird also added 28 not out to take him up to seventh in the league run scoring charts.
Andover move up to seventh place in the table and they take on sixth-placed Hungerford this Saturday, hoping to jump them in the standings.
Andover third XI managed an 81-run victory in their top-of-the-table clash against St Mary Bourne first XI.
Andover batted first and notched up a very healthy 235 all out in the 37th over.
Alex Burns (78) led the way opening the batting and laid a brilliant platform for a big total.
Luke Andrews scored a patient 45 but it was late fireworks from Richard Taylor (68) that took the Andover total past 200.
Taylor smashed four sixes in a 38-ball stay and Andover were pleased with their 235-run total.
St Mary Bourne lost wickets at regular intervals against a disciplined Andover bowling performance.
Santosh Martins (42-3) was the pick of the bowlers but he received brilliant support from batting hero Taylor (12-2), Thuva Tharmalingam (21-2), Vinay Malhorta (33-2), and Ethan Leybourne (20-1).
Andover jumped above their opposition to go second in the table and they travel to eighth-placed Bentworth looking to make it five victories in a row.
Andover fourth XI, who returned to playing on the second pitch at London Road following the laying of a brand new astroturf pitch, also recorded an excellent victory.
Andover restricted St Mary Bourne second XI to 173 all out and the wickets were shared amongst Andover’s young bowling attack.
Hashim Mohammad (24-3) led the way and there were also wickets for Finley Perrin (16-2), Ben Humphries (27-2), debutant Oscar Curtis (27-2), and Rafael Nyumbu (11-1).
Andover chased down the total with five overs to spare thanks mainly to Mattie Thain’s 75 not out.
Thain carried his bat through the innings and Andover batted around him.
Andover lost five wickets in pursuit but thanks to Thain they rise to sixth in the table.
They welcome second-placed Amport second XI to London Road this Saturday looking to close the gap in the table.
