The front door of the Cook House on Murdoch Avenue.
Mile 0.8 takes runners and walkers past the Historic Cook House at Murdoch Avenue and 13th Street before making a left turn onto Garfield Avenue. Built in 1825 by Tillinghast A. Cook to serve as his home on his 100-acre farm, the Cook House is the second-oldest building in Parkersburg. It had been in the family for generations when a Cook descendant gave the house to the Junior League in the 1970s. The home changed ownership in 2023 to the Museums of the Mid-Ohio Valley. The Junior League is credited for the Cook House being placed on the National Register of Historic Places in the late 1970s. Participants pass by this piece of history as they come out of the Julia-Ann Historic District.
The News and Sentinel Half Marathon and Two-Mile Race will be held Aug. 16.
