COLUMBUS — People entering Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Friday could be heard over and over saying, “It’s good to be back,”
After a year hiatus due to track resurfacing, the Ohio high school state track and field meet is back at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University of the 24th time.
“I like the atmosphere with the crowd,” East Liverpool junior distance runner Maddox Roach said. “You can’t beat Ohio State.”
The state meet was held at Welcome Stadium in Dayton last year. There’s nothing wrong with the stadium there, but it’s not like it is at Ohio State.
“I love this stadium,” Beaver Local senior Savannah Nign said. “The energy from the crowd while you are competing is electrifying.”
She will be going for a state titles in her three wheelchair races on Saturday.
“It’s very cool,” Salem sophomore high jumper Maddie Gorby said. “I like it a lot better.”
Put Southern Local sophomore Kiah Sloan down for another vote for Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Especially after becoming the first Southern girl to place at the state meet Friday.
“It’s so much better, the pit and everything,” she said.
The meet and more memories will be made Saturday with the first events at 9:30 a.m.
