We are back for the last session!
    … DAY 1, SESSION 3 …
Usman Khawaja answered his critics in the best possible manner, bringing up his 28th Test fifty, as the duo added 91 runs together. Just when the partnership was beginning to look menacing, Khawaja got a touch too aggressive and threw his wicket away for 82. Alex Carey, unbeaten on 48, and Josh Inglis then saw out the rest of the session without fuss and will look to build another strong stand, while England will be desperate to break through quickly and get into the lower order. Join us at 4.30 am GMT to catch all the action in the final session.
Jofra Archer took matters into his own hands and went bang bang in the very first over, breaking a crucial partnership by removing Marnus Labuschagne with the first ball and then sending Cameron Green back soon after for a duck. However, with little support from the other end, England once again allowed Australia to rebuild. Usman Khawaja looked as solid as ever, while Alex Carey continues to shine in this format. The pair gave nothing away, punished anything loose, and turned a tricky position of 94/4 into a far more comfortable one.
SESSION SUMMARY – 100 runs and 3 wickets in 26 overs! England burst into the session with real intent, but it proved to be a false dawn. Much like the pattern we have seen throughout this series, the visitors failed to capitalise when they had the upper hand. As the saying goes, you cannot afford to give Australia even the slightest opening, because they will make you pay, and that is exactly what happened for most of the session. However, after toiling away for a long time, England finally had something to show for their efforts late on, with Will Jacks picking up the key wicket of Usman Khawaja, just ten minutes before the break.
