Bangladesh tighten the screws further as Md Samiun Basir Ratul delivers another wicket-maiden. Dimantha Mahavithana is trapped lbw after a patient but scratchy stay, departing for 13 off 49. Sri Lanka U19 slide to 38 for 3 after 14 overs, with the pressure firmly on and Ratul finishing the over with impressive figures of 4-1-7-2.
Another blow for Sri Lanka U19 as Md Samiun Basir Ratul strikes at the end of the over. Kithma Withanapathirana is trapped lbw for a duck, and it’s a tight, wicket-maiden over. Sri Lanka U19 slip to 27 for 2 after 8 overs, with Dimantha Mahavithana battling on 9 off 24 as Bangladesh tighten their grip early.
Breakthrough for Bangladesh as Iqbal Hossain Emon gets the key wicket of Viran Chamuditha. He goes hard at the shot but only manages a catch to Farid Hasan Faysal, and Sri Lanka U19 lose their first wicket at 6.5 overs. Chamuditha departs for 12 off 21.
A steady start to the chase as Sri Lanka U19 move to 25 without loss, with Viran Chamuditha on 12 and Dimantha Mahavithana on 7, laying a solid early foundation.
Dimantha Mahavithana and Viran Chamuditha are out in the middle. Mahavithana takes strike as Iqbal Hossain Emon readies himself to open the bowling, with the field set and anticipation building for the first delivery.
A vital cameo at the end from Farid Hasan, who adds 29 crucial runs off 40 balls. His dismissal, however, spells the end for the Bangladesh U19 innings, who are all out for 225. This is just about a par-total on this ground, so the onus is on the Sri Lanka U19 batters now.
The Sri Lanka U19 bowlers are keeping up the pressure on the Bangladesh U19 batters, preventing them from creating any partnerships. Samiun Basir is the latest to depart for just nine runs after being caught LBW by Chamuditha, with Saad Islam coming on as the new batter.
A big blow for Bangladesh U19 as their set batter, Kalam Siddiki, is dismissed for 32, being clean bowled by Gamage. The SL U19 bowler then cleans out the next batter, Al-Amin, for a duck. The Bangladesh U19 lower-order is crumbling like a house of cards. Samiun Basir is the ne batter.
Gamage hits the stumps first ball. Shahriar is done for just three, beaten all ends up as the timber goes flying. What a start to the over. Farid Hasan is the new batter for Bangladesh U19, and he gets off the mark.
Heenatigala closes out the over calmly. Tamim nudges a single off the final ball, keeps it tidy. Just before that, Aleen does the same, a gentle push, one more run, no risks taken. Clean finish, nothing gifted.
Oh no!! Just as I was talking about Bangladesh U19 looking to build up a partnership, Beg looses his wicket. He looked to swipe it over the ropes but could not get enough power under it, and is taken extremely well by Gamage at the deep. That’s his second catch for today, and Nimsara’s second wicket. Kalam Siddiki is the new batter.
Hakim knocks the ball towards the offside and steals a single, and Bangladesh cross the 100-run mark in the 16th over. The Young Tigers are currently hitting at a strike rate of around six-and-half, and will be looking at a 300-plus total if they can build up another partnership.
That’s the wicket that Sri Lanka U19 wanted!! Abrar falls short for a third half-century by just one run, hitting the widish delivery straight to Gamage at cover. Captain Azizul Hakim is the new batter for Bangladesh U19.
Abrar and Beg have built up a strong opening-partnership for Bangladesh U19, with the former starting to punish the loose deliveries. The Young Tigers have crossed the 50-run mark in the ninth over itself, ending the first powerplay at 75. Sri Lanka U19 need to break this pairing soon.
