    BE/W Legion loses two to St. James – faribaultcountyregister.com

    St. James swept a doubleheader against Blue Earth/Winnebago in American Legion baseball action at Veterans Field in Blue Earth on Monday, June 30.
    The first game was a seven-inning contest while the back end of the doubleheader was limited to five innings.
    St. James 8, BE/W 3
    A six-run fifth inning by St. James erased Blue Earth/Winnebago’s 3-1 lead and propelled the visitors to an 8-3 victory.
    St. James scored once in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Their advantage was erased in the bottom of the opening stanza when BE/W pushed two runs across the plate to go on top 2-1.
    With one out in the bottom of the first, Carter Rosenau was hit by a pitch. He then moved into scoring position when he stole second base. Peyton O’Hara delivered a run-scoring line-drive double to center field to tie the game at 1-1.
    Dakota Mitchell came into the game as a pinch runner for O’Hara and scored on Branson Hauskins’ sharp single to left field.
    BE/W made it 3-1 when they added another run in the bottom of the second inning. Brody Eckmann reached first base on a fielder’s choice and stole second base. He eventually scored on a wild pitch by the St. James pitcher.
    Unfortunately for BE/W, that would be the last run they would score in the game.
    BE/W held St. James scoreless in the second, third and fourth innings. However, in the fifth inning the visitors combined five hits and three BE/W errors to plate six base runners and take a 7-3 lead.
    St. James added one more run in the top of the seventh inning to secure the 8-3 victory.
    BE/W scored three runs on six hits while committing five errors. St. James finished with eight runs on 13 hits. They had one error.
    Brayden Rhey was 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the BE/W batters. Noah Barnett, O’Hara and Hauskins each had one run batted in.
    Eckmann started the game on the mound and pitched four innings. He gave up one unearned run on five hits. He walked a batter and struck out a batter.
    Caiden Sickler took the loss after relieving Eckmann to start the fifth inning and pitched two thirds of an inning. He was charged with six runs (three earned) on five hits. He struck out one batter.
    Hayden Vereide pitched the final two and one third innings and gave up one earned run on three hits while walking one batter and striking out three.
    St. James 4, BE/W 3

    The scheduled five-inning game took an extra inning to complete when BE/W erased a two-run deficit in the fifth inning to tie the game at 3-3.
    BE/W was the visiting team for the second game of the double header and fell behind early in the game when St. James scored once in the bottom of the first inning and added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning.
    BE/W got on the board with one run in the top of the third inning when a hit batsman and three straight walks forced in Noah Barnett to cut the St. James lead to 3-1.
    Still trailing by two runs heading into the top of the fifth inning, Brody Eckmann started the BE/W rally by reaching first base on a walk. A single by Barnett put runners at first and second base.
    Carter Rosenau hit into a fielders choice with Barnett being forced out at second base while Eckmann advanced to third base and Rosenau was safe at first.
    An opposite-field single by Peyton O’Hara scored Eckmann while Rosenau checked in at third base.
    John Nelson’s single to right field drove in Rosenau to tie the game at 3-3 before St. James got out of the inning.
    BE/W held St. James scoreless in the bottom half of the fifth to send the game into extra innings. After holding BE/W without a run in the top of the sixth inning, St. James scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to go home with the 4-3 victory.
    Barnett, O’Hara and Nelson each had one hit for BE/W with Nelson also collecting two runs batted in.
    O’Hara pitched three innings and gave up three runs, all earned, on four hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out three.
    Branson Hauskins pitched two and one thirds innings and gave up one earned run on three hits. He walked three batters and struck out three.
    BE/W 3, Wells 1
    Peyton O’Hara scattered nine hits in six and a third innings of work while allowing one earned run in a 3-1 BE/W victory over the Wells American Legion team on Monday, June 23, in a game played in Blue Earth.
    O’Hara struck out eight batters and did not issue a walk. He did not allow a run until the final inning.
    Branson Hauskins pitched the final two thirds of an inning and did not allow a hit while striking out one batter.
    BE/W scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
    Noah Barnett led off the inning with a steal, stole second base and scored on a single by Carter Rosenau.
    Following a strikeout, John Nelson singled to center field to drive in Rosenau with BE/W’s second run of the game. The home team added one more run later in the inning on a single by Myles Moore.
    BE/Ws 10-hit attack was led by Rosenau and Hayden Vereide who had two hits each. Rosenau and O’Hara each doubled during the game.
