As uncertainty looms over the Asia Cup scheduled for September, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has begun planning an alternative tri-nation series, signaling a possible shift in focus if the continental tournament does not go ahead.
Security Concerns Cast Doubt on Asia Cup

India is set to host the Asia Cup this year, but after last month’s terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, the tournament’s future appears uncertain.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to issue a formal statement on whether the event will proceed as scheduled or be postponed, leaving participating nations in a state of limbo.

In light of the uncertainty, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is working behind the scenes on a backup tournament. A source close to the board revealed:
“Given the current situation, the PCB is drafting a proposal for a tri-series, anticipating the possibility that the Asia Cup may not take place.”
Afghanistan & UAE Likely to Be Invited
According to reports, Pakistan is looking to host a tri-nation tournament in August, with Afghanistan and the UAE identified as potential participants. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is already in preliminary discussions with both cricket boards.
This move underscores the PCB’s proactive approach amid the silence from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While India remains the official host of the Asia Cup, the lack of clarity has prompted Pakistan to ensure it has a solid Plan B in place.
If held, the Asia Cup 2025 is expected to include eight participating teams: Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Oman, Hong Kong and UAE.
