Good news: The Cincinnati Bengals created a little nest of cap space with the Zack Moss contract update.
Not so great news: There’s a chance the Bengals don’t do anything with the new space.
According to Over the Cap, the Bengals currently have roughly $25 million in free cap space. But whether that goes to some obvious remaining needs in the fallout of the NFL draft remains to be seen.
The Bengals could, after all, go after popular fan favorites such as guards Dalton Risner or Brandon Scherff, or even safety Justin Simmons, who has publicly said he would like to play in Cincinnati.

Or, the Bengals could sit on the money, eyeballing rollover cash toward next year’s cap and some insurance-like room on the off chance they need to sign free agents later in the season due to injury, etc. — the typical Bengals cap-room stuff.
Using a little bit of the cash to go out and create even more competition on the interior offensive line, even after the addition of rookie Dylan Fairchild, would make sense. So would a safety like Simmons to push Geno Stone and Jordan Battle.
But keep in mind that a signing doesn’t have to happen immediately, either. It can easily happen between now and the summer, or even well into training camp. But the ample cap space is certainly right there for the spending.
