Big Nika Muhl News Emerges After ACL Tear Ended Her WNBA Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Seattle Storm guard Nika Muhl could not play in her second WNBA season due to a severe knee injury suffered while playing overseas.
Muhl tore her ACL in her first game in the Turkish basketball league with Besiktas in October. The Storm then placed her on the suspended list in April because she wouldn’t be able to recover in time for the start of the season, according to a report published by the “The UConn Blog.”
Seattle made the decision because the WNBA allows teams to place players who will miss the first six weeks of the season on the suspended list to save cap space. However, as of Friday, despite her injury, she has signed a contract with Sopron Basket in the Hungarian basketball league.
“Nika Muhl 2025/26 💚💛,” the team wrote in the caption of a recent Instagram post welcoming Muhl to the team.
Once Muhl recovers from her injury, she could be a solid addition to Sopron Basket’s roster. She played in 16 games with the Storm as a rookie and averaged 0.1 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.4 assists in 3.6 minutes of playing time per game.
Muhl also spent four seasons with the UConn Huskies from 2020-24. As a senior, she started in 39 games and averaged 6.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game on 46.2% shooting from the field in 32.2 minutes of playing time.
Muhl also recorded 1.3 steals per game and shot 40.2% from three-point range. Although she is unable to play with the Storm, she could return to the court with Sopron Basket in the near future.
