Blue Jays’ John Schneider Reveals Bo Bichette News After Missing Yankees Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Toronto Blue Jays are in third place, but they’re on the precipice of greatness. They’re just two games behind the New York Yankees for first place after beating them 5-4 on Monday without star shortstop Bo Bichette (knee).
Toronto fell behind 3-1 before scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Outfielder Nathan Lukes and infielder Ernie Clement each hit RBI singles before star slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a two-run single. Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger hit a solo homer in the eighth, but that wasn’t enough to bring them back.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider provided an update on Bichette before Saturday’s rematch, via MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson.
The 27-year-old is “feeling better, so it doesn’t sound like he’ll miss much more time,” he reported. However, he is out for Tuesday’s game.
“Max Scherzer feels the same today as he did after his last start, Schneider says, which is good enough news,” Matheson added. “This will remain a start-to-start thing.”
Bichette is slashing .272/.311/.427 with 11 homers and 49 RBI through 83 games. He leads Toronto in RBI and tops the squad with 97 hits.
Meanwhile, Scherzer made his third start of the year on Monday after rehabbing a thumb injury. The future Hall of Famer gave up two runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and no walks in five innings.
Right-handed pitcher Kevin Gausman (6-6, 4.21 ERA) will start for the Blue Jays against Yankees southpaw Max Fried (10-2, 1.92 ERA) on Tuesday afternoon at the Rogers Centre.
