    ATLANTA — BYU safety Tanner Wall has been named to the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List for the 2025 football season. Established in 2005, the trophy is presented annually by the Wuerffel Foundation to the FBS football player who best combines exemplary community service, academic excellence and athletic achievement.
    Wall received All-Big 12 Third Team recognition by College Football Network for his play last season while also achieving CSC Academic All-America First Team honors for his excellence in the classroom. In addition, he earned recognition on both the Fall Academic All-Big 12 Team and Commissioner’s Honor Roll in both 2023 and 2024. Wall is majoring in finance and has a cumulative GPA of 3.89.
    A senior from Arlington, Virginia, Wall started all 13 games as a junior for BYU in 2024 and was the team co-leader in interceptions with three while ranking fourth in total tackles with 53, including 31 unassisted. The 6-1, 205-pound safety also had four pass defection and a pass breakup.
    In July 2025, Wall was named a candidate for the prestigious Allstate American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team.
    In addition to his success on the field and in his academic studies, Wall, a co-captain, has been very involved in a variety of community service endeavors. He currently coordinates the BYU football efforts with the BYU Pathway Worldwide program that helps mentor hundreds of students from across Africa and the South Pacific to become more conversational in English.
    He also serves as the co-chair of the BYU Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Service Committee, which provides service opportunities for student-athletes in the local community.
    In addition, Wall speaks regularly at local school events and church devotionals for youth to inspire them to pursue education and value learning and discipline. Along with other members of the BYU football team, he also makes weekly Friday visits to patients at Utah Valley Hospital who are struggling with illness.
    Wall recently returned from a summer trip to Israel where he and other BYU football players helped run a youth camp for the American Football Israel League. They also worked closely with Osimschuna Israel on a large service project in Ashqelon, organizing and the cleaning common area of an apartment building.
    The Wuerffel Trophy is named after Heisman Trophy winner and College Football Hall of Fame inductee Danny Wuerffel, whose life mission is to inspire greater service in the world. This year marks the 21st anniversary of the award.
    For the second consecutive year, the Wuerffel Foundation is partnering with Allstate to unite college football’s top community service honors through the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. Eleven student-athletes from the Watch List will be named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and serve as semifinalists for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy.
    The 2025 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy finalists and recipient will be selected by a national voting committee, with input from a fan vote. The 2025 recipient will also serve as Captain of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards show on Dec. 12, airing on ESPN. The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Presentation Gala will follow on Jan. 31, 2026, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
    WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — BYU kicker Will Ferrin has been named to the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Watch List by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. A semifinalist for the prestigious award last year, Ferrin is one of 30 student-athletes named to the 2025 preseason watch list.
    The Lou Groza Award is named in honor of NFL Hall of Fame kicker Lou “The Toe” Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954.
    Ferrin, a 6-3, 175-pound senior from Kaysville, Utah, was recently named preseason All-America Second Team and preseason All-Big 12 First Team by Phil Steele and Athlon Sports. He was also one of 29 student-athletes selected to the 2025 All-Big 12 Preseason Football Team, chosen by media representatives who cover the league.
    Following the 2024 football season, Ferrin was named Big 12 Co-Special Teams Player of the Year and College Football Network Big 12 Kicker of the Year. He was also selected All-Big 12 First Team by the conference coaches, AP, College Football Network and Phil Steele.
    Last year Ferrin set new BYU records for field goals in a season (24) and tied the school record for consecutive field goals made (16), while leading the nation with 21 field goals from 30 yards or longer, including connecting four times on attempts beyond 50 yards.
    Overall, Ferrin led the Big 12 in field goals and was eighth nationally last year while also converted all 41 of his extra-point attempts to lead all conference kickers in scoring with 113 points (8.7 per game). The senior kicker also excels in the classroom with a 3.52 GPA in business management and was named Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators in 2023 and 2024.
    Semifinalists for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award will be announced on Nov. 18, with three finalists for the award being named on Nov. 25. The finalists will be honored at a gala awards banquet on Dec. 8 in West Palm Beach, Florida. The winner will then be announced on Dec 12 during the Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
    In addition to the annual award, the Lou Groza Committee also recognizes “Stars of the Week” throughout the season. Following his 44-yard game-winning field goal to defeat rival Utah, 22-21, last season, Ferrin was named one of the Lou Groza Stars of the Week.
    BYU guard Delaney Gibb will suit up for the Canadian National Team: Toronto at the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Edmonton Stop, Aug. 1-2, Canada Basketball announced on Thursday afternoon.
    Gibb, fresh off a bronze medal at the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup during her first stint with the senior national team in June, will make her first appearance on the 3×3 stage when she takes the court tomorrow in Edmonton.
    At the AmeriCup, Gibb averaged 9.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game en route to a 5-2 record in Chile. The BYU standout also recorded the game-winning assist as time expired to secure the bronze medal for Canada in its win over Argentina.
    Gibb will join University of Regina guard Jade Belmore, Robert Morris forward Julia Chadwick and Washington State guard Tara Wallack on Team Toronto for the women’s series stop in Edmonton.
    Team Toronto is ranked 12th in the pre-tournament rankings and sits in Pool D along with Chile and France. Toronto will first face Chile in the opening game of the event at 4:00 p.m. MT Friday before finishing pool play with a 7:40 p.m. MT bout against France. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday, Aug. 2.

    BYU head coach Holly Hasler has announced the signing of Yuyun Chen, who will join the women’s tennis program for the 2025-26 season.
    Chen is a native of Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. She competed during the 2024-25 season at Liberty University as a freshman, after playing previously at National Taiwan Sports University.
    She currently holds a UTR of 9.32 and reached a high of 10.17 in November 2023. Chen also carries a 16.3 World Tennis Number, and achieved a career-high ITF ranking of No. 976, with a peak WTA singles ranking of No. 343 in October 2023.
    As a junior competitor, Chen posted a 29-6 overall record in ITF events with an 83 % win rate, including a 23-4 record on hard courts. She captured titles at G4 Ho Chi Minh City, G4 Hong Kong, and G5 Jakarta tournaments.
    Chen will join the BYU roster and enroll at the university beginning fall 2025.
