Caitlin Clark Gets Official All-Star Game News on Thursday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
It was a packed slate of games for the WNBA on Thursday night, which saw 10 out of the 13 teams in action.
The Indiana Fever, who were coming off a historic Commissioner’s Cup championship win against the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday, secured another victory on Thursday, blowing out A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces, 81-54.
Caitilin Clark was not able to take the court against the Aces, though, as the reigning Rookie of the Year missed her fourth straight game due to a lingering groin injury. However, Clark received some big news after Thursday’s games regarding her captaincy in the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game.
After getting the most fan votes, Clark was named a team captain for the first time in her career. WNBA Communications announced on Thursday that Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve will be coaching Clark’s squad.
Reeve was officially named as the coach for Team Clark after Minnesota’s 92-75 win over the Washington Mystics on Thursday. The Lynx are the No. 1 team in the WNBA with a 15-2 record, and Reeve will make her return to the All-Star stage.
The New York Liberty also won on Thursday, securing an 89-79 victory against the Los Angeles Sparks. The defending champs are ranked second in the league with a 12-5 record, which has earned Sandy Brondello the privilege of coaching Napheesa Collier’s team in the All-Star Game.
It is worth noting that Reeve and Clark have a bit of history with the former previously accused of publicly criticizing the Fever star. This adds an intriguing layer to the storyline, and it will be very interesting to see how these two function together as player and coach for the first time.
