Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has lauded Sarfaraz Khan’s physical transformation, after the latter reportedly lost 17kg of body weight to sport a slim and trim look a month ahead of the domestic season. Sarfaraz has been one of the most consistent performers in the domestic circuit over the past few years.
Sarfaraz, who is not a part of the Indian team for the Test series in England, despite being a consistent performer, had critics questioning his fitness for a long time.
Though Sarfaraz broke into the Indian side in 2024, making his Test debut against England in February, he has not quite managed to cement his place in the team yet.
“Outstanding effort, young man! Huge congrats, and I’m sure it’s going to lead to better and more consistent performances on the field. I love the time you’ve spent reorganising your priorities! LFG! 🚀Can someone show Prithvi this, please? It can be done! Strong body, strong mind,” Pietersen tweeted on Monday afternoon.
As Sarfaraz shared the image of his transformation from a gym session, netizens went gaga over his determination.
“It’s very unfortunate… I was a bit shocked not seeing his name in the squad. I’m sure he will come back strong. He has got that will to make a comeback…All I can say is, don’t be disheartened, you will get your due, if not today, then tomorrow,” Harbhajan Singh had said after Sarfaraz wasn’t selected for the England Tests.
Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw, the out-of-favour Indian batter who had shown massive promise during his initial days, will represent Maharashtra in domestic cricket.
In June, Prithvi had sought an NOC from Mumbai to change sides, which was granted to him later that month.
“At this stage of my career, I believe joining the Maharashtra team will help me grow further as a cricketer. I am deeply grateful to the Mumbai Cricket Association for the opportunities and support I have received over the years,” Shaw had said in a statement.
