24The Chicago Sky won't see Courtney Vandersloot on the court again until next season, but the five-time All-Star took an important step toward her recovery this week.
Vandersloot suffered a season-ending knee injury in her team's 79-52 loss to the Indiana Fever on June 7, dealing a major blow to an already struggling team. The Sky took to social media on Tuesday to announce a major step in Vandersloot's recovery.
"Chicago Sky guard Courtney Vandersloot underwent successful surgery on a torn right anterior cruciate ligament, the team announced today. She remains out for the rest of the 2025 season," the team shared in a post on X.
The Sky ended the post with some words of encouragement for Vandersloot.
"We love you, Sloot," the team wrote.
Vandersloot came to the Sky as the third-overall pick in the 2011 WNBA draft, leading the team to a title in 2021 before moving to the New York Liberty. Vandersloot returned to Chicago this season and was a steady presence prior to her injury, averaging 10.6 points and 5.3 assists in seven games.
Vandersloot's injury came in what had been billed as a marquee game for the Sky, who were playing at the United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls, for the first time. It was a rivalry game with the Fever featuring last year's rookie sensations, Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark.
