The Cricket Association of Bengal, led by Sourav Ganguly, joined Mamata Banerjee in paying tribute to Richa, gifting her a gold-plated bat and ball signed by Ganguly and Jhulan Goswami.
West Bengal will pay tribute to India’s 2025 Women’s World Cup star Richa Ghosh as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced a new cricket stadium in Darjeeling in her name. The Siliguri-born cricketer played a vital role in India’s historic success earlier this month.
The Chief Minister revealed the news at a ceremony, saying Bengal aims to immortalise her World Cup heroics.
“Richa became a world champion at just 22. On behalf of the West Bengal government, we honoured her, but I want to do more. There’s about 27 acres of land in Darjeeling, and I’ve asked the mayor to plan a cricket stadium there. It should be named the Richa Cricket Stadium so that people remember her performance in the future and are inspired by it,” Mamata Banerjee said.

The state honoured Richa with the Banga Bhushan award, a gold chain, and a DSP designation, celebrating her cricketing feats. Ganguly highlighted her consistency and poise, terming her a “future India captain.”
The young wicketkeeper-batter Richa was a standout in India’s World Cup run, delivering as a powerful finisher. Her 94-run effort against South Africa, coming in at 102 for six, proved pivotal and showed her temperament in pressure situations.
