College Football Playoff Top 25 predictions: How far will BYU fall in latest rankings?
Texas and Oklahoma were perched right on the bubble of the at-large field in the initial College Football Playoff rankings. Both sit at 7-2 after idle weeks on Saturday, and both have massive chances to boost their resumes on the road this week.
The Sooners play at Alabama, which has a chance to knock Oklahoma out of the Playoff in a similar manner that Oklahoma did to the Crimson Tide last season. The Longhorns play at Georgia, and while they may be able to afford another loss, a win would go a long way to securing a Playoff spot with a game against Texas A&M still to come later this month.
The AP poll came out on Sunday, as always, with Ohio State, Indiana and Texas A&M leading the way. Will the College Football Playoff rankings follow suit tonight?

Message Board Monday: Indiana fans, don’t forget how things used to be
Indiana escaped a scare against unranked Penn State last week thanks to that still-unbelievable touchdown catch from wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. in the final minute. Texas A&M also had a challenging conference game on the road, but the Aggies hardly broke a sweat as they manhandled No. 22 Mizzou 38-17. Will the disparity of those results be enough to move Texas A&M to No. 2 over Indiana?
The order of those two undefeated teams may not seem like that much of an issue. But if Indiana and Texas A&M win out (including their respective conference championship games), they’ll be the top two teams in the Playoff field. Which one of them would get the No. 1 overall seed in that scenario? We may get our first clue about that tonight.
Yes, the College Football Playoff rankings for this season just started last week. But our Chris Vannini has been ranking teams (all of them) all season long. Check out Chris’ rankings of all 136 FBS teams here.

When Notre Dame lost its first two games (albeit by four total points), it looked like a long shot to make a run at a second straight College Football Playoff berth. But the Fighting Irish have not lost since, and if they finish 10-2, they will be a lock.
Here is our Pete Sampson on the Irish and the roll they are on.

College Football Playoff bracket prediction: Who’s up for Texas vs. Texas Tech in Lubbock?
How is Indiana still undefeated? Well, it can thank Omar Cooper Jr. for that after his ridiculous catch in the back of the end zone against Penn State.
It was the catch of the year, but where does it rank in all-time college great catches? Our staff members shared some of their favorite catches ever.

The Yellow Jackets didn’t play on Saturday, and with the way things went in the ACC, that was a good thing. Virginia and Louisville lost at home, and that leaves Georgia Tech at the top of the conference — for now.
It feels like the spot for a Group of 5 champion will go to the American Conference champion. And it feels like that will be South Florida, at least for this week. Memphis’ loss to Tulane helps the Bulls’ case.
The Commodores had to work overtime, literally, to beat an Auburn team that just fired its coach. That doesn’t seem to be a good sign. But the fact that Vanderbilt just keeps winning says a lot about this team and this season.
The Red Raiders had the most impressive win of the week on Saturday, dominating previously undefeated BYU. That puts Texas Tech in charge in the Big 12, and that would be plenty to get it into the field.
It was ugly, and the quarterback play for about 50 minutes on Saturday at Iowa set the college game back about 20 years, but the Ducks did win. On the road. Against a ranked team.
That should mean something. This isn’t last year’s high-powered Oregon team. But maybe it doesn’t need to be.
Since losing to Miami and Texas A&M (by four combined points), the Irish have taken care of business. They did that again Saturday against Navy, which entered that game 7-1.
If Notre Dame is 10-2, it will be in the final 12 (always).
