The BCCI on Monday confirmed that star allrounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the five-match Test series against England, after he suffered an injury over the weekend, days ahead of the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester, which is a do-or-die encounter for India.
Meanwhile, pacer Arshdeep Singh will be unavailable for selection for the fourth Test, the BCCI added.
Reddy, who featured in the second and third Tests, picked up the injury while training in the gym on Sunday, July 20, with X-rays revealing ligament damage.
“All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the remaining two Tests owing to a left knee injury. Nitish will fly back home, and the team wishes him a speedy recovery," BCCI said in its statement.
“Arshdeep Singh has been ruled out of the fourth Test against England at Manchester. He sustained an impact injury to his left thumb while bowling in the nets at a training session in Beckenham," the statement added.
Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj has been added to the team as cover and he has already linked up with the team in Manchester.
The 24-year-old Kamboj is a worthy addition to the team after his brilliant effort for India A against the England Lions in two A-team matches before the Test series.
The fourth Test is slated to start at Old Trafford on Wednesday. Hosts England lead the five-match Anderson Tendulkar Trophy 2-1.
Meanwhile, Akash Deep, who is dealing with a groin niggle, played in the second and third Test against England at Birmingham and Lord’s, but the BCCI didn’t make any comments on the same. There is no clarity yet on his availability.
