In a remarkable effort to revive the youthful spirit of school sports, CMS Grammar School, Bariga, played host to a landmark cricket event that reignited enthusiasm for the game within the historic institution.
The event, organized by the E&G Cricket Foundation in collaboration with the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), combined practical training sessions, educational lectures, and the official presentation of new cricket equipment and jerseys to the school.
Although cricket has long been part of CMS Grammar School’s proud sporting heritage, the initiative marked a new chapter of rejuvenation — one aimed at inspiring the next generation of student-athletes and restoring the school’s place as a breeding ground for cricket excellence.
The event drew more than 700 students who listened attentively during the introductory lecture on the fundamentals of the game, led by Mr. Barnaby E. (E&G Cricket Foundation), Friday Udoh (Development Officer, Lagos State), and Zeal Ibe (Media Officer, NCF).
Following the classroom session, the facilitators conducted on-field drills focusing on bat grip, batting stance, seam control, bowling, and fielding techniques. The energy and enthusiasm of the students reflected a genuine rekindling of interest in organized sports within the school.
One of the day’s high points was the presentation of brand-new kits and custom jerseys, donated by the E&G Cricket Foundation, symbolizing a renewed investment in youth development through sports.
During the event, facilitators also inspected the cricket practice nets currently under construction, a project championed by the NCF to provide a permanent training base for young cricketers in Bariga.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Barnaby E. praised the school’s commitment to nurturing young talent, emphasizing that the initiative was about “resurrecting the youthful passion for sport and teamwork that CMS Grammar School has always stood for.”
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from school officials, who hailed the collaboration as a revival of school sports culture and a testament to the enduring role of cricket in shaping disciplined, well-rounded students.
