    Cricket round up: Hadleigh and Billericay both suffer defeats – Southend Echo

    CRICKET: Hadleigh & Thundersley slumped to the foot of the Essex League Premier Division standings after suffering a seven wicket defeat at Chelmsford.
    Hadleigh opted to bat first after winning the toss but were dismissed for 114 with Adam Dobson top scoring with 28.
    In reply, Chelmsford made it home for the loss of just three wickets as Hadleigh picked up just one point for their afternoon’s efforts.
    Billericay sit second from bottom in the table after suffering a nine wicket defeat at Hutton.
    Billericay batted first and scored 231/9.
    Heshan Mahendra top scored with 68 while opener Arjun Bhardwaj added 53.
    However, it was not enough to trouble Hutton who reached the required total for the loss of just one wicket with opener Tom Murray scoring 153.
    In Division One, third placed Old Southendian & Southchurch secured an emphatic 121 run win at Ilford.
    Old Southendian were put into bat after losing the toss and scored 204 all out.
    Opener Hafiz Yawer Afzal led the way with 59 while Shaurya Singh (41) and Dan Cooke (36) also made important contributions before Ilford were bowled out for just 83.
    Luke Clarke led the way with an impressive 4/23 while Ahsan Yousaf took 4/34 as Southendian continued their strong start to the campaign.
    In Division Two, second from bottom Westcliff on Sea drew at Belhus.
    Westcliff batted first after losing the toss and scored 283 all out.
    Carl Lees top scored with 94 while captain Charlie Lockhart added 84 before Belhus ended on 161/7.
    Muhammad Farooqi (4/54) and Callum Mortimer (2/40) both bowled well but Belhus dug deep to avoid defeat.
    In Division Three, Leigh on Sea beat Woodford Green by five wickets to move eighth in the table.
    Woodford Green scored 225 after being put into bat before Leigh made it home for the loss of five wickets.
    Isaac Wohlsen top scored with 92 while Toby Turner (58 not out) and skipper James Spencer (42) helped Leigh to come out on top.
    In Division Four, third placed Benfleet drew at home to Rainham.
    Batting first, Benfleet made 233/4 with Hammad Ul Hassan (77 not out), Sam Coelho (64) and Ben Prophet (48) all impressing before Rainham ended on 147/7.
    Hammad Ul Hassan was the pick of Benfleet’s bowlers, taking 5/33.
    Elsewhere, fifth placed Wickford suffered a five wicket defeat to Walthamstow.
    Wickford scored 266/7 in 50 overs with Jack Stead leading the way with 77 not out and Frankie McKenna adding 46 before Walthamstow made it home for the loss of five wickets.
