CRICKET: Hadleigh & Thundersley’s Premier Division survival hopes suffered a big blow with a convincing defeat at Brentwood.
Brentwood opted to bat first after winning the toss and scored 321/6 before deciding to declare.
Ethan Rogers (2/60) and Sam Handley (2/84) took wickets for Hadleigh who were then dismissed for just 74 as the hosts triumphed by 247 runs.
Opener Jack Wagstaff top scored with 27 and was the only player to reach double figures.
Hadleigh remain at the foot of the table and are now 26 points from safety.
Billericay sit second from bottom and suffered a six wicket defeat at Fives & Heronians at the weekend.
Billericay opted to bat first and scored 221 with skipper Matthew Bell leading the way with an impressive 118.
However, Fives made it home for the loss of four wickets to leave Billericay in danger of an immediate return to Division One.
In Division One on Saturday, third placed Old Southendian & Southchurch drew at home to Gidea Park & Romford.
Gidea Park batted first after winning the toss and scored 241/8.
Sam Hodgson (3/65) was the pick of Southendian’s bowlers before the hosts ended their innings on 185/5.
Hafiz Yawer Afzal scored 73 not out while his fellow opener Shaurya Singh added 50.
In Division Two, sixth placed Westcliff suffered a 78 run defeat to Shenfield.
Table-topping Shenfield were put into bat after losing the toss and scored 205/9.
Callum Mortimer (4/60) and Muhammed Farooqi (3/35) both bowled well for Westcliff who were then dismissed for 127 with Adithya Ajikuma top scoring with 47.
In Division Three, Leigh on Sea stayed top of the table despite suffering a 93 run defeat at fourth placed Hornchurch Athletic.
Hornchurch were put into bat and scored 247/9 in 50 overs.
Joe Sexton (5/75) was the pick of Leigh’s bowlers before the visitors were dismissed for 154.
Sevriano Cupido top scored with 54 for Leigh while Ross Keeley added 43 but it was not enough to prevent defeat.
In Division Four, fourth placed Benfleet drew at home to South Woodford.
Benfleet were put into bat first and scored 182 all out.
James Stitson led the way with 48 for the hosts before South Woodford clung on to finish on 129/9.
Hammad Ul Hassan (4/43) and Charlie Huntley (3/34) both bowled well but it was not enough to secure victory.
Elsewhere, fifth placed Wickford lost at home to table-topping Frenford.
Frenford scored 254/8 after being put into bat before Wickford were dismissed for 174
