Cumbria Women cricket team celebrate impressive T20 debut season – Cumbria News and Star

Cumbria Women have wrapped up an impressive debut season in the Vitality Blast Tier 3 T20 competition.
The county side finished third with six wins from ten games.
It capped a fine first campaign at this level with the Cumbrians defeating Herfordshire and Lincolnshire twice as well as Norfolk and Northumberland.
Cumbria Cricket have expressed their delight at the women’s team’s performance in their maiden season, saying the campaign saw a “huge development in skills.”
Commenting on some of the details of the season, they cited two wins in a day against both Herefordshire and Lincolnshire.
“Aggressive opening partnerships from Maddie and Charlotte set the tone throughout the competition,” they added, “and Laura was a key performer with the bat, offering composure and crucial runs in pressure moments.
“A 100-run partnership between skipper Sarah and Laura paved the way for a dominant win over Northumberland, while a last-ball run-out by Charlotte and Alice clinched victory against Norfolk.
“A tense rain-affected run chase against Shropshire also saw the girls hold their nerve in tricky conditions.”
Officials also highlighted some “magic moments in the field”, such as “a wicket with the very first ball of her spell for Zara, and a worldie caught-and-bowled from Jenny turned heads.”
There was also strong leadership from captain Sarah Earl, who “led from the front, both tactically and with the bat, guiding the team through high-pressure situations, and delivering an emotional and heartfelt team talk after the one-run win against Norfolk.”
Officials added: “Congratulations to the entire squad on their outstanding debut season, in which we saw a huge development in skills. We would also like to thank you for your dedication and teamwork.”
Next for the team will be the 50-over campaign which starts with a trip to Herefordshire on Sunday, August 10 at Colwall CC.
