In a significant development, Delhi Capitals’ budding cricketer Vipraj Nigam has received a threat from an anonymous international number. The UP-based cricketer is being troubled by a woman who is blackmailing the 21-year-old via phone calls.
According to a report by Bhaskar English, Nigam received a call from an unidentified caller, who made certain demands and threatened to leak a video online, the details of which are not been revealed yet by Nigam.
Notably, the incident happened on Sunday, November 9, when Nigam started to receive a lot of calls from different numbers. The Delhi Capitals cricketer blocked the number, but the attempts didn’t stop as the blackmailer found its way through a different SIM, which prompted Vipraj to quickly rush to the police station.
The 21-year-old has officially filed a complaint against that caller, accusing her of defaming him publicly and mentally harassing him, possibly to damage his cricketing career.
As soon as the news went viral, the police too took swift action and are busy examining call details, digital evidence, and the origins of the international numbers. Further, the family is under stress as they don’t want their son to get into any sort of controversy.
“A case has been registered based on the cricketer’s complaint. Call details and digital evidence are being examined. The matter is under investigation,” remarked the police officier working on Vipraj’s case.
Vipraj Nigam has been representing Uttar Pradesh since 2024 and featured in several domestic events. However, he found his footing and earned fame with IPL 2025 where he was bought for 50 lakhs by Delhi Capitals.
Nigam had a breakout season where he amassed 142 runs in right innings, averaging 20.29 and also picked up 11 wickets in 13 innings, turning out to be a great all-round potential.
