New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, lauded India’s historic performance at the recently concluded FISU World University Games in China. India set a new record by winning a total of 26 medals, including 11 gold medals, in the event. This number is more than the total number of medals won by India since 1959. The Prime Minister said, “This performance reflects the dedication of our youth and the changed attitude towards sports in the country.”
During the event, Prime Minister Modi also interacted directly with some medal winners. He not only listened to their experiences but also tried to understand their difficulties and motivations. When a student-athlete asked the Prime Minister which sport he liked the most, he replied, “Sports like hockey, football, kabaddi, and kho-kho are connected to our soil, and we should never lag behind in these.”
The Prime Minister also pointed out the positive changes coming in the country regarding sports. He said, “Earlier, when a child used to go to play, he was stopped. Now, families themselves are encouraging children.”He also praised India’s growing achievements in archery, shooting, and other international-level sports. He also said that today the success of children is being discussed in schools and colleges as well, which is a big change.
Prime Minister Modi believes that sports are not just a physical activity, but also a medium of character-building for the nation. He said, “Wherever the youth of the country are playing today, they are waving the flag of India. This is not just a personal success, it is a victory of the entire country.”
