Dodgers Announce Roki Sasaki News After Red Sox Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Los Angeles Dodgers currently own the National League’s best record at 46-30, holding on to sole possession of first place in the NL West after taking three straight series wins against division rivals—two against San Diego Padres and one against the San Francisco Giants.
The club’s offense has been firing on all cylinders as of late, producing 53 runs over a ten-game stretch, a performance that has been especially crucial given that their starting rotation has been decimated by injuries to All-Stars Tyler Glasnow and Tony Gonsolin, two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell, and Japanese rookie sensation Roki Sasaki.
Amid high hopes for Sasaki, his progress was halted following an outing against Arizona Diamondbacks when he began experiencing shoulder discomfort.
As a result, the Dodgers made the move to place him on the injured list on May 13, and today made an announcement regarding the right-hander’s status moving forward following a trade with the Boston Red Sox.
The official Dodgers statement read, “The Dodgers acquired LHP Zach Penrod from the Red Sox for cash considerations. In order to make room on the roster, the Dodgers transferred RHP Roki Sasaki to the 60-day injured list.”
Sasaki made the decision to sign with the Dodgers in the offseason, drawn by the organization’s pitching development and the ability to team up with Japanese superstars Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. In his MLB tenure thus far, he has made eight starts, posting a 1–1 record with a 4.72 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP while striking out 24 batters in 34⅓ innings pitched.
Although his numbers have not yet fully reflected his potential, the team remains optimistic that once he recovers, his dynamic pitching will be a critical asset in their pursuit of another championship.
